I was driving over to Daytona Beach Tuesday evening with my power chair on its rack on the back of my car. Around the house I keep my cell phone in the pouch on the back side of the seat back and last night I forgot to retrieve it before driving off. Well it apparently worked its way out during the drive and I won't even try to find it. The really dumb thing is that most of the numbers I call were stored only in that phone. Metro PCS has a service that if you pay $1.00 a month you can get a print out of all the calls made over the last 90 days but I figure that's only after starting the service. Well that's one way to get rid of pesky callers. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. I see im not the lone member in this club then. I cant tell you how many lunch pails and the old glass thermos bottles have falling off the top of my car leaving my drive way. I finally broke down and bought the steel thermos. And yes I can show you the dents in that one also:) To bad about the phone. Hope it didn't cost you to much on a replacement? [/quote] Old James |

I got really drunk, turned off my laptop and forgot the password. It took me 3 days to remember where I wrote the password. |

How about "dumb things I've ever done"? I'll never forget the time I drove to the dentist office for an appointment. When I was finished I walked to my car and got into the passenger seat. I was alone! Likewise, I hope it doesn't cost you much to replace your phone, Bob. Maybe some good Samaritan will find it and contact you. ~Sue~ |

....That's my trick when I get back to the UK after a trip to where they drive on the wrong side of the road. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I got really drunk, turned off my laptop and forgot the password. It took me 3 days to remember where I wrote the password. I don't need to go on a bender to do that. So I remember all my passwords as the same word, and just spell them in different ways (I bet that's the first time anyone has encountered "password" with a "Q" and a "Z" in the spelling) Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I finally broke down and bought the steel thermos. And yes I can show you the dents in that one also:) I don't think it will cost very much as it wasn't the latest smart phone. I only have a talk and text plan. Retrieving all the contact numbers is a different matter. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. I'm sorry that happened, Bob. The digital world we live in definitely has it's drawbacks. Things may be more convenient with these new gizmos, but at the same time everything is more fragile, too. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Gee when I was small my Mum would connect my mittens with a long thread that went up one arm and down the other. I remember that it was very hard to lose my stuff after that.... |

Definitely one of the dumbest was donating $700.00 to seti@home. If I had $700 to donate to any cause Seti@home would be high on the list. Even after all these years I think there is still much of value in the search. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. I don't think the original intention of this thread was to pick fights with each other, and really there is no place for that on the forums here. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Gee when I was small my Mum would And the problems presented when the bits of string were just not quite long enough to allow the rapid removal of the mittens.... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Well, I was able to replace my phone with minimal aggravation. I got my old number and was able to upgrade to a smartphone for only $52 and $5 more a month than I was paying before. Now I have the internet with me wherever I go and all that entails. Unfortunately they weren't able to retrieve my contacts list but like the girl said it won't be long before most of those who call me regularly will be back on my contacts list. The more I use this smart phone the less I like the idea. I'm beginning to think I should have just replaced my mostly dumb phone with another just like it. dumb phone That's all I've got, and all I need in the cell phone dept., but I'll always have a land line, too. ~I'm just old-fashioned that way. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Please have me excused but reading Bob DeWoody's original post, I understand it this way that you chose to drive your car somewhere with your phone lying in your seat. If you were able to return back home using your car, the phone may therefore have become stolen while lying in the seat of your car. Such a thing is running on battery and while not in use, the light in the display is going off in order to save battery. A mobile phone is not necessarily always that intelligent, but you may be having a contact list and a log for those numbers you chose to call, depending on the model. If you leave it unattended in a car or somewhere else, someone may be able to steal your phone. If such a thing happens it becomes not only property theft, but also identity theft, which could be something that is being felt. Perhaps it should be the same way when it comes to a bank savings account and your telephone. The PIN code, or possibly the PUK code for your mobile phone will unlock your phone by means of being a password. The bank savings account is being associated with a account number as well, possibly VISA for the purpose of transactions or purchases. Regardless of account number, password or PIN code, the encryption scheme being used for transmitting information across the web is supposed to be making such information readable or accessible for only the sender and the receiver. Assumedly the same should go when it comes to mobile communications as well, but at least such communications needs servers in between in order for such a transmission to be possible. |

Thinking about this right now. Watching some YouTube videos which went coming while I was busy. Anyway, would like to say thanks for the contents being offered. You know, biscuits and bread is nice to have in the morning, but in the end it may become too much bread a little late. A very good alternative to both hot dogs or salad, regardless of cold or hot is chicken, but then we are most likely back to where we came from and what could also be our ultimate end. You know, by watching a couple of these videos. Science is sometimes about religion, but most often about something else. If other intelligences should be present in nature, this is not necessarily always about technology, but rather about enlightment. But are we supposed to believe in such a thing, whether or not this is religion, about the possible spiritual, or maybe something else? Most likely this question is still open. |
