My Linux machines are failing all SETI version 8 wu with an error 193. (I believe this is an "illegal instruction" error). Version 7 wu work fine. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? |

Perhaps because you put new wine (Linux 4.2.0) in old jars (Pentium III Cppermine). I am running SETI on one SuSE Linux box with 3.16.7 and on two Linux guests on Windows 10 PC with Linux 4.1.15 and 3.16.7. All CPUs are AMD, one AP E450, on the box, and one A10-6700 on the Windows host. Tullio |

So, are you saying that the older machine is not capable of running V8, or that I need to revert to an older version of Linux to get V8 to to run? |

Both things are possible. I suggest to revert to an older Linux version. If this does not help, you must get a newer CPU. I have used a Pentium II Deschutes for years, but the newer CPUs are much faster and need less power. Tullio |
