Avast Internet Security 11.1.2245 installed my my XP machine thinks that the V0.44 file MB8_win_x86_AVX_VS210_r3330.exe within the zip file is infected with the Evo-gen [susp] virus. I suspect this is a false positive -- has anyone else seen this? |

This can happen just about every time (any) project sends out a new app or you try to download a custom project program such as any of the Lunatics apps. Anti-Virus programs have GONE OVERBOARD and become OVERZEALOUS in their approach to any new program (exe)that is distributed... they tend think every NEW exe downloaded or attempted to run for the first time is malicious. BEST TO JUST EXCLUDE ALL BOINC DIRECTORIES from ACTIVE AND PASSIVE SCAN TO AVOID PROBLEMS. |

BEST TO JUST EXCLUDE ALL BOINC DIRECTORIES from ACTIVE AND PASSIVE SCAN TO AVOID PROBLEMS. I've already done that -- Avast "barfs" when I try to run the installer and won't allow it to complete. So... guess I'll have to disable Avast while installing. |

New AV products, such as PC Matic with it's "White Lists" will flag anything new. So you have to tell them to TRUST. The more traditional vendors are heavy into Reputation of the file. Again anything new is suspect. Only after a number of users have TRUSTED it to run will it stop getting flagged when others run it for the first time. To help early users to be comfortable with new versions it would help if the MDA hashes were readily available on the download sites. With today's AV products there is not a lot of upside or downside to exclusions of the Bonic and Seti folders. The AV products are constantly evolving, as are the bad guys. The AV of a year ago, let alone a few years ago, is significantly different than the AV of today. And a year from now it will be different again. Herb |
