we have a crazy-control problem Most of the mass shootings in high schools in the US has not been done by mentally ill people. Only by deranged teenagers with easy access to lethal weapons. That's a big difference. |

we have a crazy-control problem We do for machine guns. But the real issue is the non-existent mental health system in the USA. Fix that, must. The real reason the right wing nutz hate 'Bama care is because it computerized health records. Can't hide that booze past and those depression meds. |

The lack of mental health care is the root of our problems, hands down, no debate... A local example to add to that, my county has the mental/sex offender care facility for the western half of my state. When the state is done with them they are dumped in my county instead of transporting them back to their respective counties. Not to disparage the ones that try to make good but more than enough of them just slide back into their old ways in my county not in their own county. The most recent tragedy, Cruz at the age of 18 legally stop taking his legally prescribed psychotropic drugs and acted out. He did not break any laws until he entered school grounds and started pulling the trigger. In contrast we have the Oscars tonight with over 500 armed local LEO with concentric rings of security around the Hollywood elite. Where is the balance? ... |

The lack of mental health care is the root of our problems, hands down, no debate... That's a biggie but the common denominator in most of the mass shootings is a semiautomatic weapon with a large capacity magazine. |

The lack of mental health care is the root of our problems, hands down, no debate... True! So what are the US doing about it? Nothing! It's a constitutional matter that have been ruled for more than 200 years. Geez :( |

It's a constitutional matter that have been ruled for more than 200 years. No, magazine size is not a constitutional matter the supreme court has ruled guns can be regulated, i.e. sawed off shotguns. |

I'm not totally convinced that mental health is the main reason for the gun related killings in the US, as other countries also report that their countries mental health care is lacking. 12 statistics to get you thinking about mental health in young people (in the UK) but they don't have access to guns. |

It's a constitutional matter that have been ruled for more than 200 years. Yes. Sorry. SCOTUS has finally begun to address the problems with 2'nd amendment. Just only need the fix the commas in the text! https://thewildwebster.wordpress.com/2015/01/15/the-2nd-amendment-and-the-importance-of-a-comma/ |

There's a lot of mention about "crazy" people, and lack of healthcare and regulations, but plenty of people suffer from all sorts of temporary conditions that make handling a gun dangerous. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Perhaps castration of young males is a better idea. Like you do to dogs, cats, bulls etc. Never heard that those type of animals have any mental illness though... |

And being deranged? New Oxford American Dictionary wrote: deranged |dēˈrÄnjddəˈrÄnjd| Perhaps you have a different dictionary or a translation. |

There's a lot of mention about "crazy" people, and lack of healthcare and regulations, but plenty of people suffer from all sorts of temporary conditions that make handling a gun dangerous. First hit from the Bing search earlier ... https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mass-shootings-and-mental-illness/ "In retrospect it's easy to connect the dots," Dr. E. Fuller Torrey, psychiatrist and founder of the Treatment Advocacy Center said. "If anyone could have put those all together it would have been pretty clear what should have happened." Most people have no clue about how terrible we are at treating mental illness in the USA. SCOTUS has not helped. They have ruled time and time again the mental case has a right to chose illness. America needs to step up the the plate and get rid of the HIPPA issues and get the mentally ill people listed so they can't pass a background check to buy a gun. It won't stop every shooting, but it will stop a large number of them. As to temporary conditions, hopefully people realize them, although drunks won't. Hey, that might be a needed gun law, shooting while under the influence. |

The lack of mental health care is the root of our problems, hands down, no debate... Molars have 2 roots and the easy access through loopholes in the system must also be addressed (private sales and gun markets). But assault type semi-auto weapons have no place in "Joe Blow's" hands to start with, they're combat weapons, leave them to the military. Cheers. |

BTW what about all the machine guns and artillery in private hands in the USA? All you need is that license and bingo you to can own a mini-gun with a multi-thousand rounds per minute fire rate or a Howitzer or a Abrams tank or an F-16. You don't hear about those things in private hands being used in crime, because the people who own them are background checked correctly to screen out mental illness and other issues. That actually works. |
