I currently live in an apartment complex for independent seniors. This place which was once top of the line locally has gone down hill and is now in receivership. One of our amenities is a computer room containing two computers running win 7. The person who set them up is long gone and none of the longer term residents even remembers him. He left these computers protected by an administrator password. No one on the current staff knows this password. These computers run 24/7 and have very low usage.I would like too install SETI on them but I can't get by the administrator password.

Any suggestions?

Find a local computer fixer. Certified Techs have Administrator and master passwords that can give them access to the whole system. Probably have to pay for an hour of their time, but unless you know a Tech who will do it for free.....

Where are you? Maybe there is a Setizen near you, who either has the skills or knows somebody who does.

There are four possibilities.
1) If it's the real administrator, this is a fairly easy. Open Control Panel > User Accounts and select the option that allows you to change other accounts;
· Select the Administrator account;
· Turn off password required. Changing this option will not require a password.
2) If it's your own account but you have another account on the system with administrator privileges, the procedures above will work as well here.
3) Use the Sticky Keys trick. You will need boot up from a Windows 7 or Windows Vista setup DVD, launch the Windows Recovery Environment (RE), and then replace the sethc.exe file with cmd.exe.
4) If it's you own account and no other account has administrator privileges it will be much more complicated.
First, make a try at changing the account you are in to administrator. It's unlikely this will work and would be a major security hole, but it's worth a shot.
If that doesn't work, try booting to a command prompt and activating the real administrator. The procedures at this link will walk you through booting to a command prompt. Once at the command prompt type the following two lines:
Net user administrator /active:yes
Net user administrator p@ssw0rD
Notes: "p@ssw0rD" is an example, type any password you desire
Once you have the real administrator activated, boot back up and logon to the administrator account. Once there, use the procedure from "1)" above.

or google yumi download the program on a computer then start it then look for windows password recovery and choose download then stick a usb stick in the computer and write the program to the stick

walk to the computer that needs the password reset stick the usb stick in boot from usb and reset password to nothing with it

takes just about 3 minutes to get rid of the password
