The nuance is that on the list of things that society has for police, I place the safety of the public higher than I place the safety of an individual officer. If that individual officer does not has ready access to a weapon then he will not endanger the public waving it around every opportunity he gets.

The Left Wing Mayor of New York City, and its City Council, have effectively decriminalized 'Quality of Life Crimes'.

Leading to Public Urination, Defecation, Sleeping on Sidewalks, etc. Not in just the Business/Tourist Areas. But in Residential Neighborhoods.
