Message 1771744 - Posted: 15 Mar 2016, 15:56:44 UTC - in response to Message 1771740.

Good morning!

Grass is growing here, so I guess I'll change the oil in my lawn mowers soon.

Get a two stroke, if you can still find one.
Lawn Boy made millions of them.
I am currently collecting parts for them.
I have two short blocks, several carbs, and misc. parts that usually wear out.

My first gas mower was a Lawn Boy Scamp, two cycle engine. I wonder why most newer mowers(if not all?) have gotten away from that?

Emissions control.
You cannot run a two stroker in CA anymore.
Pure bullshit governmental control.
As if a lawnmower or two is gonna make any difference.

Good morning again.

Just paid $10 for a dumb air filter for my mower. Is this really necessary, or is there a good way to clean the old one?

Depends on what type of filter it is.
Paper filters cannot usually be properly cleaned and reused.
However, some mowers such as the Lawn Boy, have foam filters that can be washed out and re-oiled and reused for the life of the mower.

Yeah, my old original Lawn Boy had a foam filter. I remember washing and oiling it. This new one uses paper. Still though - $10 is ridiculous.

Yeah...and so is about $60.00 for a muffler which I had to replace when the flange broke on it.
I did have the old one welded and now have it as a spare.

And I then found a vintage, hardly used two stroker Lawn Boy mower which I acquired for $80.00....... Go figure.

This one is fairly new(I bought it last year). Has a Kohler engine. Our home generator also uses a Kohler engine. I always just thought of them as faucets and toilets, lol.

Kohler is a darn good motor and they are tough, Kohler and Briggs have always worked well for me.

One thing I was real glad to see is when they did away with the old pull cord and went to rewind.

Waking up without sleeping pills is a nice surprise.
I gave them up two years ago but chemo put me back on.
Again it is very sobering to have a drug be so controlling.....
We gonna' get there!
Up!

Waking up after taking sleeping tablets can also be a suprise - of a different sort ;)

There is something wonderful in the first moment's of waking (unless you are desperate for the loo) when you are a a little dopey and ethereal and everything is so wooley and warm.

Then sadly cold reality hits.

If only they had an early morning warm fuzzy feeling pill.. I would rush myself off to bed every night in expectation.

For the last three weeks I wake up to winter, then
by noon the weather turns to spring. The sun came
up today to minus eight centigrade, with hoarfrost
lightly covering the whole world. By lunch it will
be plus five and green grass every where.
Good Morning!
