Hello. I have had BOINC installed on my iMac (10.10.2) for many years but have no idea if it is running or not. I am unable to find a tech support number to call or chat about this problem. I was under the impression a SETI at Home screen saver would come up when the computer was not in use but this doesn't happen. How do I know if it is working?

SETI@home is run by 5 part-time people. They do not have time or resources to open a tech support number to help the 200,000+ users. So instead, they have these user-to-user help forums for exactly your type of questions.

I see that your system is crunching data and returning work. I can tell this both by your RAC under your name to the left, and I can see a listing of work you've returned in the details for your computer's results.

SETI@home is much more than just a screen saver. It runs in the background at the lowest thread priority supported by the OS. The screen saver is just a nicety. To enable the screen saver, you have to go into your screen saver options and make sure BOINC is selected (not sure how to do this on a Mac).

Note that any workunits crunched on your nVidia graphics card will not show the screen saver as SETI does not have a screen saver app for workunits run on the GPU.

Thank you. That is very helpful.
I'm relieved to hear that the application is running and looking for stuff out there in space!
