Hello. I have had BOINC installed on my iMac (10.10.2) for many years but have no idea if it is running or not. I am unable to find a tech support number to call or chat about this problem. I was under the impression a SETI at Home screen saver would come up when the computer was not in use but this doesn't happen. How do I know if it is working? Michael |

SETI@home is run by 5 part-time people. They do not have time or resources to open a tech support number to help the 200,000+ users. So instead, they have these user-to-user help forums for exactly your type of questions. I see that your system is crunching data and returning work. I can tell this both by your RAC under your name to the left, and I can see a listing of work you've returned in the details for your computer's results. SETI@home is much more than just a screen saver. It runs in the background at the lowest thread priority supported by the OS. The screen saver is just a nicety. To enable the screen saver, you have to go into your screen saver options and make sure BOINC is selected (not sure how to do this on a Mac). Note that any workunits crunched on your nVidia graphics card will not show the screen saver as SETI does not have a screen saver app for workunits run on the GPU. |

Thank you. That is very helpful. I'm relieved to hear that the application is running and looking for stuff out there in space! |
