Economy is more than exchange rates.
http://www.worldbank.org/en/country/russia/overview
Russia’s anticipated economic recovery has been delayed, and the country continues to adjust to an adverse external environment of lower oil prices and international sanctions. In 2015, the consequences of these twin shocks caused real GDP to contract 3.7 percent.

The adjustment to the worsening external environment caused an estimated 10 percent drop in gross domestic income, which sapped consumer demand and discouraged investment. The decline in real income has had a significant impact on poverty - the poor population increased by 3.1 million to 19.2 million total in 2015.

Vladimir Putin spoke at the plenary session of the State Duma today.
He links the Nazi invasion of the USSR with "aggressive acts" of NATO today.
That Putin never forget injustices, old and new, and often use it as a weapon in the political game is well known.
But is not this taking it too far?
http://kremlin.ru/events/president/news/52198
The main lesson of the past war is well known: it could have been prevented. It took a timely and firmly curb the uncontrolled Nazis and their accomplices, but it did not happen. For direct suggestions of the Soviet Union - our country - on joint action, the collective defense followed by a direct refusal or these proposals simply zabaltyvaet.
Leaders of some Western countries preferred a policy of containment of the Soviet Union sought to put it in terms of international isolation. However, the real, terrible, global threat came from then Nazism. Its danger is underestimated, views, did not want to admit that, in enlightened Europe is born and is growing criminal regime.
The international community failed to exercise vigilance will, cohesion, to prevent war, save millions and millions of lives. What more is needed lesson to today, rejecting the old, worn-out ideological differences and geopolitical game, unite for the struggle against international terrorism?
The risk of this common threat is growing before our eyes. It is necessary to create a modern, non-aligned, equal for all states of the Collective Security system. Russia is open to discuss this important issue and has repeatedly declared its readiness to engage in dialogue.
But as long as we again, as it was before World War II, we do not see a positive response. On the contrary: NATO intensifies its aggressive rhetoric and its aggressive actions already close to our borders. Under these conditions, we must pay special attention to solving problems related to increasing the defense capability of our country.

A visual aid to Putin's speech yesterday.

Russia always want some bufferzones in their western front.
As everyone can see they already have large bufferzones.
Except against Estonia and Latvia.
There is Kaliningrad also, the tiny exclave next to the Baltic Sea, but that is special so leave that out.

Isn't this enough, Putin?
Or should Estonia and Latvia worry?

An interesting opinion of oppositional politician, former deputy of the Russian State Duma (parliament), Vladimir Ponomarev (an interview to Ukrainian media) -

P.S. Google translate some phrases incorrectly, "валить" (i.e. bring down or overthrow) it means in the Russian slang "to leave" and also it means "to kill", depending on a context. So, the sense of humorous internet proverb in the article heading - when someone offers it, the patriot answer is "whom to kill?" and the liberal answer is "where to leave?"
Also, the Google translate "The price of oil has dropped to such an extent that the cost of the Crimea and the Donbass, a small on a national scale, undermined economy", but the real sense is "The price of oil will NOT drop to such an extent that the cost of the Crimea and the Donbass, a small on a national scale, can undermine economy".

Turkish media: Turkey, Russia take step to mend ties, FM to go to Russia
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has expressed his “regret and sorrow” to Russian President Vladimir Putin in a letter addressing the downing of a Russian jet in 2015, expressing his desire to restore bilateral ties, the Turkish and Russian presidencies have said.
The letter follows a series of goodwill gestures from Turkey to Russia in a bid to normalize the bilateral relationship that has been severely hit due to heavy trade and tourism sanctions imposed by Moscow.
In related news, it was also announced that Turkey’s foreign minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, will go to Sochi on July 1 to attend a regional summit where he could also meet with his Russian counterpart.

Yes, Igor. Translations can sometimes be very wrong.
Even translations between Belarusian and Russian.
Belarus President’s Speech Leads to International Striptease. :)
http://sputniknews.com/europe/20160701/1042262052/belarusian-president-viral-nudity.html
“Innovations, IT-technologies, privatisation — it is all clear. We’ve conquered all of them. But everything is very simply, one should get undressed and work,” Lukashenko said during a speech on the economy.
The president meant to say “develop themselves,” but the phrase closely translates to “get undressed” in Russian — the language spoken by 72% of the population. Just over 10% of the population speak Belarusian, despite it being the official language.
Thousands of Belarusians mocked his statement by getting naked at work and posting photos to social media using the hashtag #раздеватьсяиработать (#getnakedatwork).

Putin: "NATO would gladly fight Russia to the last Finnish soldier"!
http://yle.fi/uuhttp://yle.fi/uutiset/putin_nato_would_gladly_fight_russia_to_the_last_finnish_soldier/8999170
Visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that NATO membership for Finland would be the country's own affair. However, he pointed out at a press conference after talks with President Sauli Niinistö that if Finland were to join, its defense forces would be part of a NATO infrastructure extending up to Russia's border, and that things would change.

Vladimir Putin. Stop your warmongering!
Simple as that.

Some more!
He let it be understood that in this case Russian troops would no longer stay 1500 kilometres back from the Finnish border, as they do now.

For heavens sake. Alakurtti is 60 km from the Finnish border.

Putin pins an award on the man who allegedly hides his billions.
https://meduza.io/en/news/2016/07/04/putin-pins-an-award-on-the-man-who-allegedly-hides-his-billions
In the aftermath of the release of the Panama Papers, Vladimir Putin told reporters that he is proud to have friends like Sergey Roldugin, who the president says has spent almost all his earnings on musical instruments, which he donates to Russian state institutions.

The number of people living in poverty--defined as those having a monthly income below the official minimum living wage--is about 14.2% of the overall population!
Two men that heard enough.

"Being shot by the cops here easier than in Russia" - the Russian living in San Diego, about the freedom in the United States in comparing with the Russian Federation.

"By the way, I don't want to sound like I don't like the States. Good country: rich, industrious, kindly, beautiful and comfortable. But don't say about the freedom".

LOL:)

It's St. Vladimir's Day, which marks the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of the Russian people.

St. Vladimir AKA Valdamarr Sveinaldsson.
Vladimir's father was prince Sviatoslav of the Rurik dynasty.[6] After the death of his father in 972, Vladimir, who was then prince of Novgorod, was forced to flee to Scandinavia in 976 after his brother Yaropolk had murdered his other brother Oleg and conquered Rus'. In Sweden, with the help from his relative Ladejarl HÃ¥kon Sigurdsson, ruler of Norway, he assembled a Varangian army and reconquered Novgorod from Yaropolk

Thousands of Moscow Patriarchate pilgrims gather in Kyiv, Ukraine for tense celebration.

Next lesson is that the Baltic Sea is not only a Russian sea.
There are many other countries that are sharing it!
