It appears as though the download server(s) need a kick - I've got work units to download, but they don't D/L! Resolved itself just after I posted... . Hello, from Albany, CA!... |

...that happens to me fairly regularly, pen a "I've got stuck downloads" moan and the downloads free themselves before I can post it... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Hi Folks, Is summat amiss again? BM repeatedly fails to connect to server for more tasks, 4 attempts so far and it reports project dowm. internet access ok. This seems to be the standard situation these days, da bleeding gremlins are once again loose in the server room, of the comms pipe. Regards, Cliff, Been there, Done that, Still no damm T shirt! |

Hi Folks, It would appear no/very little work is as been sent to clients like you or I. There is plenty of fresh work flowing into the servers to be sent to us when they fix whatever the issue is. Parts of the server status page is running 39 minutes behind as I post this |

Bet its those damn Biker Mice from Mars fiddling with the splitters again, Well, they may look like mice, but they're actually hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings, just running more experiments on us to see how we'll react. ;^) |

There have been further exceptionally weird spikes on the Haveland graphs. It would appear the servers are having further fits. Grant Darwin NT |

Hi Cliff I think the server just wants Sunday night off :) That 300MB is incoming data from a remote server. After the data ends, it's an hour or two before we see new data to be processed. We seem to still be processing data so fast they are pulling data that has been processed before but needs to be processed with the newer software we are now running. I will take whatever I can get. |

It appears the AP splitting has Stalled again. There are files to split but very little progress is being made. The creation rate has been bouncing around the 0.0xxx range for some time now. Nice kick. Now my machines are downloading APs again. Thanks. Hopefully that dubious 'Results ready to send' number will correct itself soon. |

Hopefully that dubious 'Results ready to send' number will correct itself soon. Yep, 16:10:05 UTC it did show Ready to send 3,472,323MB and 103,949AP. Then at 16:20:04 UTC values are 325,457MB and 4AP. Something wrong with SSP, those "spikes" has been seen several times in Haveland "Please keep Your signature under four lines so Internet traffic doesn't go up too much" - In 1992 when I had my first e-mail address - |

The kitties have AP set to their first choice, but still take MB as a second to keep things running when AP is not flowing too well. And that's been quite often as of late. But, the mix keeps the crunchers rolling as much as possible. Meow. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

The kitties have AP set to their first choice, but still take MB as a second to keep things running when AP is not flowing too well. Does it really matter? Really? AP work units result in more "credit". Everyone knows. So what? Everyone knows that the "credit" system is broken and that there is no fair measurement of who contributed how much. And even if there was (a fair system), would you stop contributing to the overall effort if you had no chance to ever get into the top 100? I certainly don't have a chance to ever make it into the top-100. That does not discourage me at all. Is it less likely that one of my computers is going to detect the signal, we are looking for? Maybe, but "credit" is a really poor estimate for that probability. In the end (if there will be a happy end), there will be a few computers and their owners, who actually detect "THE SIGNAL". And that may include someone, who has no "credit" whatsoever. My guess is that some people here will be really upset about that when it happens. They contributed SO MUCH and now some NOBODY with NO CREDIT is taking ALL THE CREDIT? WAAAAHHHHH!!! Yes, that is what I think is going to happen. If anything happens at all. |

Yes. It is about recognition for effort. You get less recognition for effort on MB than you do for effort on AP. Until they fix the credit system the arbitrage will continue. Dr Anderson needs to step up to the plate and admit that he has made a mistake (that would require him to take ownership of his failing) and that the system will be fixed. There is more than enough data and proof to show that the system is not functioning well. cheers |

I believe that the "credit" system is the least of the problems, regarding systems not functioning well in SETI land. I am only a database expert and when I see projects shutting down for half a day every week for "maintenance" and "backup", I know they have some serious issues. Most likely they are tied up in crappy technology because their "developers" did the "database design", which is a sure fire method to screw up in my book. But that is just my guess. |

I believe that the "credit" system is the least of the problems... I would agree with that view. The current issues have been dragging on for some time and it would not appear to bode particularly well for the future. cheers |
