Thats the same here in germany Chris.
Teenagers think they are cool and dont realize its just embarrassing.
In ten years time they are laughing about themselves.

With each crime and every kindness we birth our future.

I think it is absolutely fascinating
to hear what younger people are doing
with the language. I try to make predictions
as to what changes will happen in my life
time, and I am delighted when I am wrong.
(Yes, I am delighted a lot these days.)

Over here we still have teenage boys swaggering around with jeans at half mast showing their underwear. Apparently it's hip!

We have that too. We adults keep hoping they will notice that it's already out of fashion with the rappers. We have a rule against it in school.

Apparently, the word hip is hip again.

As for the language of rap/hip hop, just yesterday I did a thingy here at work to promote a book we just bought: Book of Rhymes: the poetics of hip hop. The author postulates that hip hop is the modern form of poetry and people should accept it as such. (I still say bleah.) (But I'm not all that fond of poetry anyway.)

Unfortunately it's epidemic and I don't see an end to it anytime soon.

Best we can hopeful is that some of them "see the light" and decide to go against the flow and come out "normal"

Burns' Nicht (Burns' Night)
Sunday 25th January is Burns' Nicht, and as usual there will be a Burns' Supper for all to enjoy.
As usual Rocky's has obtained a space-time distortion permit, which means, while the Supper only takes place once, it will appear to take place at the same local time everywhere (no worries about adding or subtracting strange numbers of hours from Rocky's time).
Arrival at 18:00 for 18:30, carriages 04:00 (latest)
The Honoured Guest list is complete, and the after dinner speaker has agreed to talk for no more than 3 hours.
Supper will be served at 20:00, and will, as ever I, your Master of Ceremonies, will be in full Highland Dress(*), and will address The Haggis with the traditional welcome (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8l2m3_2Xjg)

We one very Highly Honoured Guest, who wishes to remain anonymous, and his anonymity is to be respected - as an incentive to this, while one may talk about said guest if one should let slip his identity you will be presented with the drinks bill for the entire evening (As will anyone else who thinks we are joking).

This year we are grateful to two Scottish companies for their most generous sponsorship of the Supper, Mogerleys of Dumfrise are supplying the haggis, and Jura have kindly donated all the Single Malt Scotch Whisky for the evening. There are three of their "normal" range available, Origin (10yrs), Prophecy (12yrs) and Turas Mara (16yrs), plus a few very special barrels, some nearly 40years on the wood (now are they smooth...)

(*)In answer to the question "Is anything worn under your kilt?
The response will be:
To Ladies: "Nae Lass, everything is in perfect working order"
and To Gents: "Ask your wife"

The last time I addressed a haggis it got returned by the post office as not known at this house.

Mr Sparky, I wouldn't turn up at a Burns night supper in a girls dress if I were you, that lot eat wee tim'rous beasties for elevenses.

Are you kidding! I've got quite some attention when wearing a skirt :) Cheers :)

*attention being pints bought :)
