In other words " a well informed judgement" but it seems that the banking industry lost touch with that reality with the sub-prime issue so they've only got themselves to blame for the situation they now find themselves in.

Wrong. A computer program can only react to it's programming. It is almost an impossibility to give it a course of action for any possible perceived situation. What you can do is akin to the antivirus programs where they use heuristic analysis. Also you can use stuff like Microsoft Excel that can calculate forward projections or trends based upon supplied data.

Nonsense!
And Excel in real time. In microseconds?
Get real:)

I don't Think you know what heuristic analysis is...

Using computer programs don't make the decsions they only tell you the current trend and past trend .It's still up to the trader to be informed but as the current oil situation shows sometimes the info is also wrong .

If you look at the Iron Ore price , witch has dropped to aprox $60 odd a ton
It's easy to see why this has occured

over production from the 4 major players , BHP ,Rio Tinto , Fortscue and a Brazillian company (all thou the ore is not as pure so not a true contender)
1 company Atlas a smaller player is shutting shop , and Ziggy Forrest of Fortscue at a meting in China made a speech and say's the 3 big players should cap there production ,

Form a Cartel !!!!!!

Add recent event's in Yamen and lack of info except B/s from the Sudia's about oil prices computer programs help but still comes down to knowing and some luck
