The AMD R5 230 supports 4K resolution and DirectX 11, but some cards are designed without 4K capability. It has a Nice "chilled" TDP of 19 watts. The Nivdia GT220 does'nt support 4K and only DirectX 10.1. It has a TDP of 58 watts. Can't say how much fun they are crunching boinc, but solely for desktop use i'd go for the R5 230 |

I'm an Nvidia nutter, but these days I wouldn't use a 210 as there are better, newer devices on the market for much the same price. Take a look at the GTX720, more cores, faster and lower power consumption. Admittedly the price is a bit more just now as it is still so new. In addition, I wouldn't buy an end-of-life pre-fermi (cc 1.2) card these days, except for specialist testing. I agree with Rob, the GTX 720 would be a much better candidate from the NV stable in the long run (consider TCO). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units#GeForce_700_Series |

Raistmer, I have no idea why anybody would want a G210 these days but if you really wanna have one, I can send you my old card for free: |

I mean, if you want really old stuff, start looking for gt430. On the other hand, since you are in Russia, your choices are a bit limited. |

Do you think so? We closer to China, BTW, don't forget where actually all stuff produced now ;) Thanks all for comments, I'll look how GTX720 priced currently. EDIT: Card not for me but my friend, just to make it clear. |

If not I will go with AMD's one. |

No GTX 720 on both eBay or Newegg. GT 720 perhaps... AMD is cheaper. In my local shop cheaper considerably. How about performance compared with GT 720 ? [Overall, not only SETI-oriented] I saw very nice link to performance test with really huge number of GPUs involved but can;t find that link anymore. |

A decent entry level card is the GT 630 Series 3. It's a more modern chip than the original GT630, and only uses ~20W of power. Less heat and noise. http://www.gigabyte.co.nz/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5045#ov |

For me, nothing can beat the GTX 750/750Ti for price/performance/power usage. But it does cost more than the most basic of older series cards. Grant Darwin NT |

And if one could go above GT 720 by ~30-40$ what would you recommend then? |

What about a GT 730? Does it need to be a low profile card or can it be a regular size card? This is low profile model http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487052&cm_re=gt_730-_-14-487-052-_-Product This one has 2 GB of DDR5 Ram, 902Mhz with 384 cudas |

What about a GT 730? Does it need to be a low profile card or can it be a regular size card? Quite old case with old PSU, but PSU replacement to 550W FSP already planned. MB is microATX, AMD Phenom(tm) 9350e based. |
