Study: Liberia’s Ebola Epidemic Could End By Summer

ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta) – A new study predicts that the Ebola epidemic in Liberia could come to an end by June if the country stays on track with getting a high percentage of people who are ill to a hospital.

Researchers found that if 85 percent of people with Ebola in Liberia are hospitalized, spread of the disease could be nearly stopped sometime between March and June 2015.

Unfortunately while it looked like it might spread to the west the media were all over it. Now it seems to just be an "African" problem it gets dropped. No longer newsworthy.

Not sure what message that sends.

Perhaps the best thing we could do is,
Transport the necessary amount (understand expensive) Military Mobile Hospitals to the region.

Looks like it's not needed.
Hans Rosling said "All important actions were done in Liberia & they were coordinated by competent Liberians thats my take on the success"
Joel Selanikio said "From perspective of a Sierra Leone Ebola Treatment Center we went from zero to 30 to 2 in the last month"

Possible Ebola cases flown to UK

Two volunteers have been transferred to the UK after potential contact with the Ebola virus in separate incidents.

Public Health England said the patients' risk of having the virus was low and the measure was a precaution.

Authorities said the individuals - one of whom is Australian - had not been diagnosed with Ebola and did not currently have symptoms of the disease.

Experts emphasised the risk to the public was low and said the volunteers would be monitored for 21 days.

Ebola crisis: Mali says it has no more cases

Mali's health minister says the country is now free of the Ebola virus, after 42 days without a new case of the disease.

"I declare this day... the end of the epidemic of the Ebola virus in Mali," said Ousmane Kone.

The last Ebola-infected patient in Mali recovered and left hospital in early December.

Ebola Wanes In Liberia as US-built Treatment Centers Open

The apocalyptic predictions for Ebola infections are looking overblown. Back during the summer, the CDC floated the idea Ebola infections could surge past a million in West Africa. Luckily, those alarming prediction never became facts on the ground.

Mutant Ebola Virus May Evade Drugs, Study Finds

The Ebola virus strain that's killed more than 8,600 people in West Africa is mutating in a way that could make experimental drugs less likely to help, researchers reported Tuesday.

They said they'd found 10 new mutations that might interfere with how three of the most advanced drugs work against Ebola. The drugs, including the experimental ZMapp given to several Ebola survivors, should be tested against the current strain, the researchers said.

On Ebola front line, first glimpse of end to epidemic

(Reuters) - Here at the front line of the Ebola epidemic, the tide seems to be turning against the disease.

A military-style operation to fight the outbreak in Sierra Leone - the worst-affected country - has helped to dramatically reduce new cases, in what health officials say is a major step towards defeating Ebola.
