Has anyone loaded it yet and seen if it works with the new apps? Zalster |

I have it downloaded but haven't gotten around to installing it yet. I should get a chance at work tomorrow if nothing else comes up. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

Oh look, there's another one of those free OS upgrades at the App store. I didn't know that was coming so soon. Caught me at a bad time. I just swapped out drives to see if Ubuntu was still going to go all nuts and complain about drive errors on this different drive. I still don't understand why OSX can't find the same errors Ubuntu finds. I would need to swap out drives again to install Yosemite. Unless....I could clone Mountain Lion to an external drive and Upgrade the local version of Mountain Lion. I'll have to think about this... |

Well, I loaded it onto my older mac. I can say that it runs the nvidia App. It's crunching away on the APs that I have. Lets see how it does over the next few hours. Aside from that. I HATE IT!!!! Ugh...It feels like bloatware. Superslow to do anything. If I would have know this, I wouldn't have upgrade to it. Lucky for me, that is not my daily use computer, just a spare that I use for testing and crunching. Ok, I'm calm now....Good luck to any that upgrade to this thing. Zalster |

I have a Mac Mini so no discrete video, only integrated Intel video. I thought all Macs were superslow. I only use mine for downloads. |

My 6 year old Mac spent Months on the SETI Top Computer Front page. Considering it is 6 years old and using $150 worth of GPUs, I thought All Windows machines were superslow. Has to be true, else how could such an Old Mac with such cheap GPUs be so high amongst all those new PCs sporting much more expensive GPUs. |

For crunching, I'd say the age of the computer does not carry as much weight as having the best video card perfectly configured. The best video cards are not necessarily the newest or most expensive. I do think Yosemite Beta is extra slow. They release new update builds every few days and those take some time to install. Web browsing feels slow as if maybe the built-in delay is intentional. Maybe it only runs fast with SSD but the video walkthrough where they tear down a Mac Mini like an assault rifle just to get to the hard drive looks like a bit of a hassle to me. |

You do understand Apple uses the same Intel CPUs & Video cards that Windows machines use. They are the Same. Tests with similar hardware has also proven OSX to be superior to Windows as well. You are most likely trolling...I hope. |

I don't know that one is necessarily superior to the other. I'm just expressing an opinion here, it doesn't mean I'm right. If you have an application that only runs on one platform, then that's what you should choose. Virtualization and emulation are not universally appropriate. Okay maybe I was off base about the web browsing thing, which is the bulk of what I do. The difference is probably closer to 2%, and it usually takes a 20% difference to be generally noticeable. I will admit that Windows has its issues. A few people use it. |

Something about being able to tune the O/S to the hardware and not having to support hundreds of possible configurations? |

Did you know you can remove half of a striped OSX RAID, move the drive to an external enclosure, connect it, and your Striped RAID will work! Try that in Windows. Or just swap ports with your normal Windows drive and see what happens. I like being able to install my OS on a pocket drive, plug it into any other Mac...and it works. My system on your computer...try that in Windows. |

I think the Mac Pro is cool but some people want something between an iMac and a Mac Pro |

I rearranged the ports for the drives in my RAID setup on my gaming machine shortly after setting the system up. I didn't have any issues, but that was using the build in hardware RAID from the controller. I think the last time I used an OS software RAID feature for a system setup was when Windows 2000 was a current OS. I have played around with it on newer OSs, but don't really see a need for it with hardware options. Being able to install OS X to an external USB drive, or RAID across USB drives is a neat feature. I am glad that apple stopped getting custom version of hardware from Intel for their machines. When we got our last iMAC finding information on the Core 2 Duo E8135 was nearly impossible. Of course Windows OEMs never used 'custom' hardware. Oh wait, I have this Dell I wanted to swap boards in. Except, an ATX board will not fit in a PowerEdge Dell. Shucks. Dell Power supplies are also legendary. Get over it people. Remember this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPgIIpdpobk I have the Mac version around here somewhere... *snicker* |

Not liking this Yosemite. So far it is taken 12 hours to only get 36% through a AP on Beta. Hmm. This is not looking good. Anyone else running Yosemite and seeing this? Zalster |

I've been using Yosemite since early summer. Seems to work fine without any big drop off in performance with SETI. You can't tell that from my numbers at the moment because I'm trying to find the right balance of CPU work and iGPU work. Still looks like I'll get the best performance running all CPU and no iGPU work. The CPU gets throttled too much if I run more than a couple of cores with the iGPU. Thermal throttling that is... Hey Chris, I'm running NV GPU only right now. No CPU work. I guess I should turn that on and see what it does with both of those. For now, it's only the GPU I'm looking at. Zalster |
