A variation on a theme, and one for the gurus.... Not the usual "screen goes black" , or BSOD, but after a few minutes of processing S@H on my latest beast I get a randomly coloured screen, this time is is a "tasteful" shade of apple green, prviously its been black, blue, and yellow. No amount of coaxing will get me out of this, the only thing that works is hitting the power button. the computer in question is 6452693 (I know its an old id, but it has "suffered" a few updates over the years, most recently a new motherboard, CPU & GPU) frustrated I am..... I had that happen on a machine with a TNT2 as the GPU was dying, but I wouldn't think a brand new 980 should be doing that. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

Strangely the computer is still connecting to the S@H servers, and the HD light is flashing like crazy..... Have you tried remotely connecting to the client to see if it is still working? It might, if he is stressing his 980 24/7. I had a new 780 fail after 1 month of constant 24/7 crunching. So...It might be failing. Time will tell. Hopefully you got the extended warranty? EVGA was really good about getting me a replacement unit. Bad side..I also had to replace the motherboard when it failed. For me, it was imagine on monitor, like when a satellite connection is getting disconnected..The image blurred and locked just before the Hiss, crack.pop followed by smoke.. I really hope that isn't the case. Keep an eye on it though. Zalster |

It has happened with my 650TI. When I overclocked it slightly too much (are you overclocking) In my experience you have basically 4 states: 1) Not overclocked 2) Correctly OC. 3) Slightly too much OC. Everything seems OK, but you are producing lots of invalids. 4) "Very too much" OC: Green lights Sleepy |

Not tried remotely connecting... Brand new out of the box, not used until a couple of hours ago. Still in factory default state. Just shut down and re-started and noticed that the version of Zotac's control utility was well out of date, so I've uninstalled that and am now running another test session with S@H churning away. Sorted - it must have been that out of date Zotac utility that was messing things up as the computer has behaved since its removal last night. Thanks guys. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |
