You might want to also disable hardware acceleration in your web browser as well if you already havn't. ;-) Cheers. |

Task 3804666490 is repeatedly hanging up on my Toshiba Laptop's GPU at the 11.865% mark. When this happens my screen flickers momentarily and I get a message that says the display driver stopped responding and has recovered. The same also discussed here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=75947&postid=1590758#1590758 Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Before messing with TDRDelays I would recommend to try app's own tuning capabilities listed in ReadMe file specially for such cases [it seems OpenCL ATi MB caused restarts in that particular case] RTFM ;) And only if that did not help rise the issue again. -period_iterations_num N: Splits single PulseFind kernel call to N calls for longest PulseFind calls. Can be used to reduce GUI lags or Other listed options could be helpful too (like -sbs one) |

Thanks for all the replies. I plan to do a little experimenting based on the suggestions provided but first I need to do a lot of "getting up to speed". That is, Raistmer's RTFM point, although very applicable to me, is not the entire problem. Reading is one thing, understanding is completely different. BTW: Although my cat is doing his best to help me to write this post, he has the same issue I do with regard to RTFMing. |

Regarding RTFM, experimenting with the period num iterations option had already been done on my APUs a long while ago, with no apparent change in the frequency of stuck MB tasks. (For the record, I think I got to the point of setting the parameter in the order of thousands.) I'm not complaining, just clarifying the circumstances. Soli Deo Gloria |

(For the record, I think I got to the point of setting the parameter in the order of thousands.) Order of thousands no need. 100-200 should be enough in case it works at all. Try to apply -sbs 128 or -sbs 64 along with ~100 period num. [and next suggestion will be driver change. I recall more than month debugging session with AMD support where they gave whole spectrum of suggestions regarding stability of my hardware, quality of my OS and so on and so forth (MB gave BSoD periodically) except to simple driver change. I did change the driver and BSoDs completely disappeared.] |

I also thought thousands was a bit excessive but I think someone on the boards suggested it at that time. I'll try what you suggested should APs run out again. I tend to stick with latest stable drivers on the APUs as well. I didn't get to the point of BSoDs, just driver restarts. Soli Deo Gloria |

Wedge & Raistmer, Thanks for the additional info! FYI: I haven't done any experimenting yet - still in getting "up to speed" mode. I did a quick read through of the links posted here regarding TdrDelay, etc. and found some discrepancies between MS's info and my version of Windows - which I don't understand yet. That is, when I use RegEdit to look at TdrDelay, I noticed that my Windows doesn't have most of the other Tdr related variables listed in the articles. Not sure if this is because the MS articles were mainly referring to Win8 and I have Win7 or if there may be another reason - e.g. I used a Norton Utilities type program a while back to "fix" some registry problems. I also noticed that my TdrDelay was set to 8 - not the default value of 2 - but I have never tinkered with these settings before. Haven't gotten to the "Read Me" file yet but I appreciate the guidance relative to N value settings. I am sure it will save me a lot of time experimenting. I have a lot on my plate for the next few days, so I probably won't get back to this until next week sometime. But I will keep the current WU suspended until I do. And I will report back on any successes and/or failures. Again, thanks to everyone who responded for the help. Stick |

I also thought thousands was a bit excessive but I think someone on the boards suggested it at that time. I'll try what you suggested should APs run out again. I think the primary cause of video driver restarts in Windows is over aggressive crash detection. It is a bit of the "There was nothing wrong but we fixed it for you" I think. I imagine if the video driver was actually crashing as often as Windows thinks it was I would have lockups or BSOD happening now instead. Which I don't. Wedge & Raistmer, Any missing values are running at predefined default levels. Unless an entry is specifically created to change the value. Only items you want to change would need to be created. Instead of adding them all. It is possible that your Norton software, or another application, added some values or changed some other settings from default. That is, when I use RegEdit to look at TdrDelay, I noticed that my Windows doesn't have most of the other Tdr related variables listed in the articles. It should have None - all "Tdr related variables" do not exist in any Windows, they have to be created if you want to change the default values. (normally (= when "Tdr related variables" are not in Registry) Windows uses defaults which are probably hard-coded in some exe/dll) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

I added config file with per-device configurations to override command-line options. Now multi-GPU hosts owners can configure each GPU separately (3 most important options for now, more will follow). |

I added config file with per-device configurations to override command-line options. I think there's quite a lot of testing to be done yet - there were problems with very high memory usage on some tasks, and the fix for that still has a few wrinkles. I will be releasing a new installer when it's all ready, but that won't be until it's all signed off as tested again. If you mean beta test versions to help speed up that acceptance testing, I imagine they'll appear in the usual places. |

I added config file with per-device configurations to override command-line options. Trying to fix the high memory usage, is that high up on the to do list? |
