What happens after we die? Are we snuffed out like lights, or do we continue to exist in some way? Those are age-old questions, for sure. But a provocative new study on near-death experiences suggests that a brief version of "life after death" may be a reality. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/08/life-after-death-science_n_5945000.html |

The length of these after death experiences was described as brief. If the cessation of heart action was more prolonged, the patient would irretrievably die, and so, be unable to report what was experienced. The many reports of consciousness persisting well after brain activity sufficient to support it had ceased is a fascinating and provocative finding, and seems to hold some very large implications. |

Is it possible to discuss the subject of Life after Death without bringing in the subject of religion and faith? Again, as have been mentioned earlier, we think we are able to explain everything in a simple way, even though there are many things which are not yet that simple. I guess that to most people, including Americans, the notion of life vs. death is a very important one. We did not know what happened before we were born and we do not happen when we ultimately pass away. Everything we happen to know about in the Universe relates to mass and energy. Energy are particles being radiated at the speed of light. Some people are thinking of radiation as being waves rather than particles and in this way trying to explain what gravity is all about. Birth and death are the start and end points of an object's life cycle. Nothing lasts for ever, even not the Universe itself. The notion of God as we happen to know it is from the fact that Jesus once visited the earth and brought religion and faith with his presence by means of teaching about God. Definitely Jesus was a healer and was actually able to wake up from death himself. Still we are able to make a difference between a magician and a priest, because the first is actually faking his stuff, while the second is believing in what he or she is doing. Nature is supposed to be based on principles. Therefore it should be explained in the same way as well. |

Well I'm still not getting my hopes up. I figure that when your physical body dies your life force follows closely behind. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Not sure what 'life force' means in this context. We see that life tends to conserve the characteristics of the individual, beyond his, or her lifespan, via genetic inheritance. Individuals are, in a very real sense, kept alive in their descendants. Further, that life has given rise, in human beings, to mind. Ideas, the product of minds are preserved by cultures and civilizations, which are overarching products of mind. A case can be made that there could be a level of being, yet higher than mind, and arising out of it, that preserves the consciousness which is manifested in the individual, beyond the physical lifetime of that individual. |

What happens after we die? Are we snuffed out like lights, or do we continue to exist in some way? Hmmmm - interesting thread :) My other half has been resuscitated five times due to heart failure following dialysis. He remembers nothing until he wakes up in cardiac ICU - and that includes having his ribs broken during CPR and being plugged into the national grid. Mind you... it does take him about six weeks to notice I've cut my hair so perhaps he's just not very observant... @reincarnation: *gaze into crystal ball* y-e-e-s ... that doesn't half look like I'm returning as a snail... _@v :) |
