And I wuz kinda into that thing 35 years ago or so.
Remember the circline FL thingys?

I still have a few in the garage and basement that still fire up when I hit the switch.

What I won't do, and some misdirect folks have done, is to toss in the trash working lights in lieu of more modern lights. That is not always correct.

I shall wait until the FLs go dark, and then replace them.

Ya know what that is?
I can track most of your wives........and most of your gurlfriends.
A can do a trace on most of your bank accounts.

I have resources you do not. And I have reasons they owe me such information.

I do not intend to misuse it.

You just better know that I have it.

I have protected myself for years against this day.

Mark Twain said it better...........
Ya see, claiming to be a simple man does not belie the truth.

The fact remains when he be simple, whell, he is just like you and me.

prot was quite correct, Julie.
Every being in the universe upon birth know right from wrong.
Some simple beings like da birds and da bees, don't have to employ that knowledge. They exist only to survive and procreate.

Higher animals such a homo sapiens, however do have both the knowledge and self awareness to be able to.

And at some point, the innocence of youth is lost and they make a choice. And when they make that choice, THEY ARE AWARE that they are doing something that is against what was born into them.

Yes, Julie. I truly believe that every being in the universe, upon birth, knows right from wrong.

I said that Mark, and I stand by it. It isn't. Now go and get some sleep, you have a fundraiser to run and work tomorrow.

@Julie- It's only a sci-fi film, and it is basically about mentally ill patients and their delusions. He thinks he's an alien but it turns out he went crazy because his wife and child died, so he created this other persona to deal with it. But enough doubts are provided by the author Gene Brewer, so that people can decide for themselves which of the two possibilities they prefer to believe. It is considered to be a box office flop.

People in the universe can be taught right and wrong according to the values of the society they happen to live in, or they can learn them as they go. Then they have the choice whether to adhere to them or not. Kpax is a movie, nothing more nothing less.

DUH! Like I didn't know that Chris! I've seen the movie about 5 times now. Actually still wondering where that Bessie went in the end of the movie... But it IS true that not every being in the Universe knows right from wrong and that's actually the thing I was trying to say with my post.

That is one of the main points in the film that is never completely explained, and quite deliberately so by the writer. It encourages you to think that he was an alien and that she went with him. Else if he wasn't, what happened to her?

Yes, Julie. I truly believe that every being in the universe, upon birth, knows right from wrong.

Well, I don't.

I agree with you. But as you say, Sunday night, chill out time :-)

Hugs

Chris

That's why it is such a wonderful movie. And why there were two endings filmed.
Ever see both?

Was prot an alien? Or just a man who's mind went away because of a most terrible crime that was committed and went to the utopian world he created?

I know....many think myself a bit crazy when I start talking like prot.

But.........
I believe that I was sent here by a higher power. You could call that another 'planet', if you wish. kpax and 'heaven' could be construed as the same.
prot believes that he came from another world. I believe that I did as well.
Maybe not in the same 'space time interplanetary travel' sense.
But I know I clearly did not just pop into being when my mother gave me birth.
And I won't die completely when my body leaves this earth.
My thoughts and writings will continue to haunt many of you years later.
Unless an EMP blast takes everything electronic off the face of the earth, and even then, there are some projects that are trying to carefully save and store and protect the whole internet from such an event.

I in many ways, am prot.
And like he did, I can show you many ways to better live life. My example is not always the best way to go. But, I can lead by example, if even by crawling into and saving myself from the gutters of life.

I prove that it can be done.

Message 1565637 - Posted: 1 Sep 2014, 7:13:22 UTC

Long, busy day for the ol' kittyman.
Had to replace the battery in Lori's u-verse backup box...and take the old one back for recycling.

Mowed the backside of her berm again...which is always a big task, as it's hundreds of feet long at about a 40 degree tilt, you have to get in and under the lower branches of the pine trees that line the top of it. And we've had enough rain lately that it had gotten rather thick to boot. Not fun.

And then the award winner for the simplest task gone horribly wrong. Change the 4 light bulbs in her decorative post lamp in the front yard. As Lori likes to quip..'How hard can it be?' Well, I'll tell ya.
It has a main bulb in the center, with a standard size base. And then 3 decorative stalks around it with smaller candelabra based lamps. The glass shades are fluted, shaped like a trumpet facing up, with a decorative cap on top. The glass is fitted to the sockets with a 1/8 turn locking thread, and the caps attach to the top of the glass with a similar mechanism.
OK...first step is to get the glasses off. Which is no problem for the 3 outside ones, as the teardrop shaped bulb is small enough to fit through the opening in the bottom of the glass. So the top caps do not have to come off the glass. That went OK. The center one with the larger bulb, don't work that way. The top cap has to come off first, so the bulb can be removed from the top. Except it simply refuses to budge. So I have to then take the cap of the cap off, which is a flat round plate attached with 4 screws. Got that apart. Now to remove the bulb. Typically no problem, right? Except the socket is turning with the bulb and you can't reach past the bulb into the narrow part of the trumpet glass to hold the socket. After a long bit of carefully turning, tapping and cussing, the bulb finally gets loose enough to come out. The saga continues. Now that I have the bulb out, I have to figure out why the socket is loose. Which means I have to remove the glass. Which comes right out......leaving half of the glass threads in the socket. Now I have to coax the broken threaded part out of the socket. Which requires another round of carefully turning, tapping and cussing. It finally relents, and I enlisted Lori to reattach it to the glass with super glue. Now I have to actually start to fix the socket. Which means I have to disassemble the top portion of the post lamp. Which I do, and what I find is not pretty. Years of corrosion have eaten away the steel lamp nipple that supports the socket and ties the top two die cast pieces of the lamp post together. Which means I have to remove the whole shebang to attempt repairs. Which means I have to disconnect the wiring from the center socket, which is tied to the outer 3 sockets and the mains with 3 wire nuts. Which are also corroded, so I have to cut the wires and can't reuse the wire nuts. Which means I have to run down to the basement, find the correct circuit breaker and cut the power. We're not there yet. Not even close to there yet.
Now I have the broken bits in hand and trundle off to Home Depot. One trip, right? NOT. I get there and collect some standard lamp nipples and some new brass nuts. Decided on a Cree 40w LED light bulb for the center and found some really cute Phillips teardrop shaped candelabra based LED bulbs for the 3 outer ones. They should be cute for $13.00 a copy.
Get back home with my bits and proceed to the next step. Which is to remove the old nipple from the socket base and the die cast parts. Which is corroded, remember? So a third round of carefully turning, tapping, and cussing, as I don't want to break the socket itself. Took quite a while, but things finally came to my way of thinking and came apart without damage. Reassembly with the new bits went just fine, and I'm back to the lamp post to put it all back together. Which means first reconnecting the wires with some new wire nuts which I KNOW I have in the basement. Which I KNOW I have in the basement. Which I KNOW I have in the basement. Meowsigh, so I trundle back to Home Depot for wire nuts. Returned to the lamp post. Put it all back together. Time to install the new bulbs and wrap things up. Nothing can stop me now, right? Wrong. Out of the 3 cute little teardrop lamps, 2 have the correct candelabra base and the 3rd? A standard size base. Same bulb, same package, different base. So, off I trundle to Home Depot again to exchange that. They look at me quite quizzically when I enter again. I mutter 'How hard can it be?' and leave with the correct bulb. Got it done, and I must admit it looks very pretty now when lit after dark. I am pleased with the results.

So, if your mate asks you to change a light bulb and follows the request with 'How hard can it be?'......be very, very scared. LOL.

Ditto. And I have a water leak coming from my shower pipe(I think) and going into the basement. It's not a lot and not a consistent amount, and might even be rain water coming through a vent pipe, but I don't think so because I just had the roof replaced, along with all the flashing.

I am on a journey.
One that few of you shall ever experience or understand.
I undertake it because I have not other choice than to continue onward.
My life has been somewhat preordained.
And I have been given choices, though few.
Being here is once of the few choices I have been given and have made.

Few of you understand and/or respect that.

My choice to be on this earth was not of mine.
I was thrust here by my simple birth.
I kinda would rather been born 20 years earlier...........would have been much easier for me.

Neither of us saw it coming..........

Yeah, I know. And then I quote a song 30 years earlier.

I am whatever you call it........sicchotic. No, I don't know how to spell it.
But you get my drift.
I am a one-off. A nutcase. Something or someone other that yourselves.

I am simply me.

I have little strength to continue ranting and raving against the machine.

My days are numbered here. You are the reason.

Byron's fine donation is one thing that keeps me going.

Watch the rest of the movie.

And then, to sleep with the kitties.

I know, most of you don't really understand me.
How could you?
Just impossible.
