Gadzooks, isn't it enough that we have to have wall to wall football for lord know how much longer, now even my favourite beer has been hijacked! Apparently it basically reads "We share the action in Brazil, from the crew at the Warka brewery"

Strewth is nothing sacred, is it all over yet, and can I come out from behind the sofa???

No... you can't. Sorry Chris :) My other half still has several rungs down the evolutionary ladder to descend yet. We're at wild man of Borneo at the moment. :)

I know that I am going to get hate mail over this, but I feel the same way every time it is an Olympics year. I simply do not care.

Calcio (football here, soccer in the USA) is just a way to make money for TV owners. People buy time on commercial TV broadcasts and don't go to stadiums on Sunday, it is too dangerous for the presence of hooligans and organized fans clubs. I used to go to the Trieste Stadium with my father on Sunday afternoon to watch Unione Triestina matches with Milan, Inter, Juventus etc. We were once second in an Italian championship with Nereo Rocco as a trainer, who later went to Milano and won many cups. Happy days!

Thankfully the soccer (the name is also used in other countries and not just the USA) is only shown on the SBS channels here which is not 1 of our main or popular networks.

Cheers.

Have you seen the prices for ordinary UK 1st Division annual season tickets? Let alone World cup prices Costs I think it's a rip-off.

Holy friggin' cow! I don't even need to do the currency conversion. When there's a comma in there, I know it's too rich for my blood!

Belgium won against Algeria yesterday, 2-1:)

Friendly rivalry between peoples countries is just fine, and good for Belgium I say :-) But it's the hard core fans putting each other in hospital before and after the matches that gives football a bad name. Scotland yard in the UK has a list of hard core fans that are not allowed out of the Country when the England team play abroad in FIFA or otherwise. There are other fans of other Clubs that play in the EUFA Cup on similar lists. Sadly British fans are not well behaved.

British and Italian hooligans are the worst kind I remember. Thinking of the Heyzel Stadium disaster in 1985:

[edit] My mom was there, luckily she got out in time!!

Apparently 80% of Germans watched the first game on Monday.
I belong to the minority.
I was sorely tempted to hit the shops while we played...

I suspect (like Chris) I am in the small percentage of the UK male population that has absolutely no interest is football. I actually have no interest in sport period and when the Olympics were held in the UK in 2012, I made sure I had booked my holiday at the same time so as to avoid it as much as possible.

I suppose one good thing, with the 40+ TV channels (that I consider worth watching- there are over 100) available on Freeview, only 2 are regularly carrying the games and I almost never watch them anyway.

So I was probably one of the last people to become aware of the England result nearly 20 hours later.

Also perhaps someone can explain if the game starts at 8.00 PM why does the coverage start at 7.00 PM?

I watched a bit yesterday while looking for something to lull me to sleep, and it worked pretty well.
