FYI You could "play" with the settings, for example I use AP = 0.51 and MB = 0.33 on some of my hosts, so it start 1 AP + 1 MB when AP is avaiable or 3 MB when no AP works is avaiable. In other i use AP=0.5 and MB = 0.25, etc. You must try to "play" only with the GPU settings, for the CPU keep the 0.04 for MB and 1 for AP to keep the GPU correctly feeded. Someones uses 0.5 or 0.75 for CPU AP but i realy not try it, my CPus are very old & slow to try. But the unwrited roule still value, test is your key. |

On 16 April, my new build will commence to replace the dead i7/930 (Intel i7/4770K, AsRock Extreme4, Win7 ultimate(64-bit), 4 x 2GB Corsair Vengence ram, 1 x EVGA GTX660SC @ 2GB, 2 x Samsung 840Pro 128GB SSD, 1 x WD 250GB HDD, 1 x UltraX4 1200 watt PSU, BOINC 7.3.15(x64), Lunatics 0.41). The GPU will be processing 2 x AP OpenCL, or 2 x MB, or 1 x AP & 1 x MB depending on availability. I will be adding another GPU as soon as possible. I've read most of the posts on incorporating the IGPU into OpenCL processing along with GPUs, but what I've not seen are experiences concerning what happens when games or DVDs are being used. I normally have suspended GPU processing when doing either of them to prevent stuttering, etc., and there have been times when my bowser has froze because of GPU processing. My questions are -- Wouldn't it be better to use the IGPU exclusively as the monitor, ignoring it in BOINC, so that the AP/OpenCL processing will not be interrupted during those times that games/DVDs are being used? I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

It's possible, but at the same time I know that the software and firmware underneath is more complex than that. In a perfect world I would hope so, while I know that forcing chipset drivers to stick, getting RAM and MCH to play nicely, and decent drivers can be a challenge. 50/50 chance it would work 'out of the box', with the other 50% chance being a nightmare :D "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. On my i5-4670K HTPC I have the HD5750 connected to the TV via HDMI & not running any tasks. Then I have 3 CPU + the Intel GPU running. No monitor on the Intel GPU. Sometimes when watching youtube, or videos using VLC, I have to pause all processing. As there is stuttering or the video pauses for several seconds while the audio continues on. I am starting to think the memory bandwidth is getting maxed out or something of that nature.
