I got really happy for a moment there - and then felt a bit not :) Does that mean we can say it's a planet for one day a year then? :)

Call Pluto a Planet every day if you want. Remember what Shakespeare said about names.....

Thank you Donald I will :) and thank you Byron for reminding me what the relevant quote in this instance was (midst the million other things Shakespeare said about lending ears and whatnot) :)

I reckon that the majority of us older people will always call Pluto a planet.

Cheers.

Sorry Rob, but do you have that in your sig?

I wouldn't know as I've had sigs turned off for many, many years now. ;-)

Cheers.

To me Pluto is still a planet, dwarf or not. I think the IAU came up with the dwarf planet category in a vain attempt to placate all us older people who were taught there were nine planets. No matter how it is officially designated it is still the same object, just the definition has changed and for the life of me I still can't understand the reasoning behind the IAU's ruling. It's round, has a moon and orbits the sun. Mercury is only slightly bigger but retains it's full status as a planet.

Just think of how many pages of posts that would not have been made had the IAU just left things alone.

Thank you Julie. I had that tag for a long time. Been looking up since 5/18/1999.
Yes I know it doesn't match my current sig, Danimal started the original account.
Pluto will always be a planet to me.

You are right. Part of the definition was a planet had to clear its orbit of astroids. I dont know of any planet that does not get whacked by them. So thats a stupid rule.

To me if its round by gravity, Orbits the sun, Then its a damn planet.
