Wouldn't there be some sort of seismic or atmospheric evidence of that sort of test?

Reportedly, there was evidence. But, it might not have been a successful test as the yield calculates to be a rather... wimpy 6 kilotons.

South Korean lawmaker Lee Cheol Woo told reporters that the country's spy agency told him in a private briefing that Pyongyang may not have conducted a hydrogen bomb test given the relatively small size of the seismic wave reported.

He said National Intelligence Service told him that an estimated explosive yield of six kilotons and a quake with a magnitude of 4.8 were detected Wednesday. Lee, a member of the parliamentary intelligence committee, said the agency told him that even a failed hydrogen bomb detonation typically yields tens of kilotons.

"Given the scale, it is hard to believe this is a real hydrogen bomb," Yang Uk, a senior research fellow at the Korea Defence and Security Forum, told Reuters. "They could have tested some middle stage kind [of device] between an A-bomb and H-bomb, but unless they come up with any clear evidence, it is difficult to trust their claim."

http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2016/1/23/north-korea-detained-us-student-over-hotel-incident-tour-agency-says.html
A China-based travel agency said Saturday an American university student recently detained by North Korea is being held over an unspecified incident at his hotel that allegedly occurred before he was scheduled to board a flight for Beijing.

North Korea announced his detention on Friday in a state media report accusing Otto Warmbier of committing a "hostile act" orchestrated by the U.S.

Shame Aljazeera America is gong to close. Can't find unbiased international coverage like the above on corporate media.

So what did he supposedly do to get arrested?

As much as I'm curious about N. Korea, I don't think I'll be traveling there.

It is really sad that Kim Jong-un thinks he needs atomic weapons to defend N. Korea from the rest of the world while the bulk of his country's population lives on the edge of starvation. He could really show the world something if instead he devoted his time and energy to creating a place where all of the population has decent housing and adequate food to eat.

Just so you know, Gary, it's this type of response that brings out Clyde's abbreviation "SLDM" for you.

North Korea is preparing to launch a long-range missile as early as next week, according to a Japanese news agency.

Kyodo cited an unnamed Japanese government official, who said there were signs of possible preparations for a missile launched based on analysis of satellite imagery of the North's Tongchang-ri missile test site.

Assuming China's Leadership is Intelligent and Sane:

Are they really comfortable with a Nuclear Armed and Missile Capable, North Korea?

If not...

Can China and the West, come to some sort of understanding, agreement, and 'solution'?

IIRC, and if reporting is truthful, no, they're not comfortable with it.
As to the last sentence, I have no idea.

It seems to me that doing "something" about the current situation in North Korea is in just about every other country's interest. Even if N. Korea builds only 100 nuclear tipped missiles and only 10% actually work, that's 8 more than have ever been used in war. And why would they build them if they have no intention of using them? Very scary.

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/02/north-korea-launches-long-range-rocket-160207004824786.html
North Korea has launched a long-range rocket, violating UN resolutions and doubling down against an international community already determined to punish Pyongyang for a nuclear test last month.

North Korea had labelled Sunday's launch part of a purely scientific space programme, but most of the world viewed it as a disguised ballistic missile test and the nuclear-armed state's latest step towards a weapons delivery system.

The rocket, which Pyongyang said carried a satellite, took off at around 9:00am Pyongyang time (00:30 GMT), according to the South Korean defence ministry which was monitoring the site.

Its pre-orbital flight arc was planned to traverse the Yellow Sea and further south to the Philippine Sea, with both South Korea and Japan threatening to shoot it down if it encroached on their territory.

Does anybody think the recent developments will actually help N. Korea get whatever it is they want?

Day after U.N. sanctions North Korea, Kim Jong Un orders nuclear weapons to be made ready at moment's notice

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2016/03/03/north-korea-readies-nuclear-weapons/81284690/

North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un has ordered nuclear weapons to be readied for use, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported Thursday, citing the official North Korean state news agency.

The shift in military posture would allow North Korea to carry out pre-emptive attacks, North Korea's Central News Agency said.

Didn't he already order this last time they had sanctions?

No nukes for now.

(CNN)North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles early Thursday, according to the South Korean military, as already heightened tensions on the peninsula continued to worsen.

The North Korean Military, with China's help. Gets rid of this lunatic.

I'm actually surprised after all these years of il and un some internal coup hasn't upset things yet. The power at the top must really have a very special stranglehold.
