Search teams ARE looking in the right place for missing plane MH370, an independent report confirms

Sure :(

On Thursday Australian Transport Safety Bureau confirmed search area in southern Indian Ocean was correct
A week ago the ATSB announced 'pings' detected off WA coast were not from the missing plane
The ATSB said a study after the 2009 Air France crash concluded majority of lost aircrafts were found within 32km of last known position
Searchers will continue looking in the long flight path 'arc' determined by aviation company Inmarsat

It seems that all the experts agree that the region is correct based on the Inmarsat data based on the aircraft's hand shakes (well I havn't heard of 1 who disagrees yet).

Cheers.

THE Kiwi oil rig worker who claimed to have seen missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 burst into flames the morning it disappeared has been fired for his report to authorities.

New Zealander Mike McKay, who was working on an oil rig operating in the Gulf of Thailand, was so certain he saw the ill-fated flight on fire that he emailed his employers, urging them to forward the information on to authorities.

Not again?

MH370 search area 'to shift again' amid new doubts over speed and altitude

"Inescapable uncertainties" over speed, flight path and altitude of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 mean search area will shift again, reports claim

The search for MH370 looks set to expand further as authorities on Monday signalled another major shift in the search area, in what is already set to be the most costly search in aviation history.

MH370: authorities insist plane 'will be found along search arc' as private search firm hired

Australian authorities insist missing Malaysia Airlines plane MH370 will be found along "seventh arc" search area as private Dutch firm contracted to map Indian Ocean floor to 20,000 feet

Authorities in Australia searching for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane have hired a Dutch private company to start mapping the ocean floor at depths of up to 20,000 feet but continued to insist the aircraft “will be found along the seventh arc”.

Missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah not to blame for disappearance, family insist

SOME consider him the prime suspect behind aviation’s greatest mystery, but the family of MH370 pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah have never wavered in their belief in him.

Today marks 100 days since MH370 disappeared with 239 aboard, and in that time Zaharie has been linked to a mystery “other woman” and even accused of using his at home flight simulator to plot a plane crash in an act of domestic terrorism to support controversial Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

The latest here.

Missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 search distracted by bogus signal: Inmarsat

Hourly pings sent by the plane were received by Inmarsat’s spacecraft, leading scientists to calculate its likely path. Australian naval vessel Ocean Shield was dispatched to investigate, but before reaching the likely site, began to detect a signal that it believed was coming from the plane’s black box, Inmarsat told the BBC program.
Two months were spent searching 850 sq km of sea bed northwest of Perth, but the source of the “pings” was not found and a submersible robot found no evidence of the airliner.

“It was by no means an unrealistic location, but it was further to the northeast than our area of highest probability,” Chris Ashton at Inmarsat told Horizon.

Cheers.

The search for the missing Malaysia Airlines’ Flight MH370 is scheduled to recommence in August to the southwest of the original search area based on Inmarsat's handshakes from the stricken flight.

Malaysian police investigation names MH370 pilot ‘prime suspect’

AN OFFICIAL police investigation into the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370 has identified the captain as the prime suspect — if it is proven human intervention was involved.

Captain Zaharie Shah became the focus of the special investigation in Malaysia after all other passengers were cleared of any suspicion, The Sunday Times reported.

Doesn't say where this small island is though or if it's within range of the suspected flight path.

I don't remember any small island. The flight path changes daily.

A report from CNN says:

Malaysian police are denying a report in a London newspaper that MH370 pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah is the primary suspect in the probe into the plane's disappearance.

(CNN) -- Australian authorities will announce a new search area Wednesday in the hunt for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, according to the agency overseeing the effort.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said Sunday it's been re-examining data that could shift the search area hundreds of kilometers south along an arc derived from satellite data.

More than three months after Flight 370 disappeared over Southeast Asia, searchers have found no trace of the Boeing 777 or the 239 people aboard, making it one of the biggest mysteries in aviation history.

So much false information, for me to believe anything:(

What I don't understand is why Australia is spending so much time and money looking for this airplane. It is commendable but it must put a strain on their resources.

It has something to do with international area of responsibility and Oz is it. Angus is going to send the bill to Malaysia but they can't be forced to pay. Malaysia is the lead country world wide but Oz is responsible for that area of ocean. It is all part of our burden.

Maybe I shouldn't say this but if all the money that has been spent on this, up to now, fruitless search were instead divided up between the relatives of the passengers and crew they would be much better off in the end. This is because I think it can be safely assumed that everyone on that flight is dead and chances are they won't even find the spot where the plane went down so flowers can be left in memoriam.

Some truth in that Bob, but one of the main reasons for any accident investigation is to understand what happened, so we can try to prevent it from repeating.
