I've noticed that the project servers are down once in a while. And to make the best of it it's good to have a supply of work units on the computers to chew at so I changed the preferences to 9 days of stored work. However it doesn't seem to work. My old and slow AMD X2 machines have large amounts of stored work units to keep them busy for good amount of time. But my fastest Intel quad with ati 5850 graphics usually has only a handful stored. Right now it has 6 wu's in queue. So it runs out of work in no time, within a day at best. Is there a way to change this?

And I might as well ask another question when I'm at it. How to make Boinc complete all stored work units on specific computers and stop them from downloading new ones? For example if one needs to be shut down while the rest can keep working. Last time I just shut one down with uncompleted work. The client should have a "Disable downloads" option or something.

How have you set 9 days

My fastest machines have the maximum 100 CPU and 100 GPU tasks

with this setting in the Boinc Preferences - Network Usage

"Minimum work buffer = 3.00 Days"
"Max additional buffer = 0.5 Days"

Thanks! Found it now. I hadn't paid any attention to the projects tab. It's not that I'm lazy and didn't google it, I did, it's just a matter of searching for right thing. Sorry for the stupid questions!

That did the trick thank you! It worked immediately. I was fiddling with the online preferences, network "Maintain enough tasks to keep busy for at least ()
(max 10 days)"
