I seem to have grown addicted ot Seti@Home. I sysmin a small business, and have converted every PC that is reasonable into a set cruncher. Every home PC, (including the one I can't phsyically find, but somehow is on my lan, and responds to VNC,) are running Seti@home. I end up semi-obsessively checking my Seti stats once or twice a day, mentally trying to urge my computers just a bit faster, wanting to climb that little bit higher. (http://www.setisynergy.com/stats/boinc-stats.php?id=64433) I am, according to the above site, currnetly 678 in terms of total credit, and 225 in terms of average credit. (Surely not, there must be many people with more comptuers than I...) I guess the question or rambling story is this: am I alone? Some cosmic stats-obsessed freak? Or are there others out there who check thier stats every day, hoping to crush the others and rise the top of the list? Speak up! Be heard! What are people's goals here? I aim to be in the top 100 Set Total and Recent Average Credit. I am saving up to buy a quad opteron to add to my pile just ot achieve this goal. Is there anyone else who is doing the same? Let's hear from you! |

I don't know if I really qualify as addicted but I hate to see a computer running the idle loop and I always want it to do something worthwhile. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

After turning our home into a crunching farm, I'm always looking for more effective ways to keep the house warm ;-) This morning I found myself thinking about creating a cluster!! I really don't know where this will end after all. |

Well according to the history graphs on my stats site, you seem to be moving upward quickly! Despite the fact that I develop a BOINC stats site, I actually don't look at my stats all that often. Actually I think I look at my webserver log analyzer more than my personal stats. Stats about stats - even better! :) But you obviously aren't the only one. I have several hundred unique visitors to my website every day and I'm only one of 3 or 4 such sites. I think there is a little stats wh0re in all of us :) A member of The Knights Who Say NI! Guilty as charged. I just cant stop my self After all when we run seti were just monitoring how each box is running its just normal maintenance right? like a stress test. I believe it, I do, I do, I do ????? Fred <img border="0" src="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/one/stats.php?userID=935" /> |

addicted - Oh no not me. There should be a help group for this. I work in IT and see hundreds of company computers just doing word processing etc - what a WASTE. If a computer is not doing a boinc project then there is no point in it being switched on. I find that I spend more time looking at ebay for quicker kit than checking the stats. If electricity was free I would have the house/shed/garage full of machines. Sad of nottingham (UK). |

Me, I'm strung out like a lab monkey. I'm going to give will-power one more year, then I'm going to Lourdes. |

Guilty here as well. Bad enough that I'm going to see if I can scrape up enough cash to put together a system with an AMD FX-55, (afterall, I like to game as well). |

BOINS is a good sysadmin tool: it is easy to notice if something is wrong with PC. Just recently I found problems on RAID array while checking seti@home. If you feel adicted, then Carolyn;s clinic is good place: http://www.carolynsclinic.f2s.com/ BR Iztok |

How about starting the BOINC crunchers anonymous? I'm still a bit pissed off because my employer doesn't allow me to run BOINC in the test systems because of the bandwidth it consumes. I ran SETI classic on them and that was about 400MB a day. About 200WU's a day. Join team BOINCstats |

About 200WU's a > day. > YOu know, i never even considered how much BANDWIDTH Seti was consuming. I leave my windows open in the dead of winter to "vent" the appartment, (Free electricity! yay,) I worry about drying out the caps on my mobos. I worry about all things related to running a CPU at 100% for 3 years solid. (Hold together baby, hold together....) but never even CONSIDERED the bandwidth. This actually may explain a great deal. Hmmmm..... As to BOINC crunchers Anonymous....that sounds GRAND. So...what say we make a time/IRC channel/server and get togther? >) All together though, it's nice to know I'm not alone. After all, I was having trouble justifying the expense of the Quad-opti to myself...but I chalk came to terms with it on the grounds that "if I ever need to edit video, there's the box to do it on...." Good luck to all! BTW: What are you guys sitting at stats wise? |

>I guess the question or rambling story is this: am I alone? Some cosmic >stats-obsessed freak? PLEASE......come talk to me when you incorporate your stats from 2 PC's AND your Team stats into your own dynamic signature that had nothing to do with SETI in the first place. Or come talk to me when you're ready to make one of your own :) http://www.brainsmashr.com/pstats.php . <a href="http://www.brainsmashr.com"><img src="http://www.brainsmashr.com/signature.gif"><img src="http://brainsmashr.com/boinc/counter_big.php?id=305369&project=seti&ctx=white&cva=red&cbo=white&cbg=black&linethickness=2"></a> |

Not that I needed an extra clue, but I saw a new processor from IBM that set my heart afire. Four Power-5 processors with dual cores (shared L2 cache, ~2 MB) mounted on a carrier with an obscene amount of L3 cache (4 additional chips totaling 32MB) ... The chip carrier is as large as your hand! |

> I seem to have grown addicted ot Seti@Home. i'm with you, don't feel the need to destroy the others, as that will NEVER happen... i have 11 systems running, i own all of them, and just will never have the nice quad xeons or opterons myself... i do have some old pII and pIII xeons, but never could get the mobo's to boot up.. *pout* i have satisfied the addiction for a few weeks as i have just been able to add 4 more systems (though one will be leaving my home as it was built for my dad -- hide the process and he'll never know it's there *grin*) so, i think we are pretty much ALL in that boat with you, one way or the other, or why are we even here with BOINC (or better yet, who _else_ would take time to read the forums ;) S@h Berkeley's Staff Friends Club |

Though they were dog slow, they would let me get 10-15 WU done before they would reset the installs. Remember, when the new version of BOINC comes out, you will have to update his machine to get it to work. |

Well, I think i have some early signs of addiction. I currently have 4 2.8 GHz Pentiums running (I'm setting these up for as yet undetermined customers) and have 6 more identical machines in the garage that I'm trying to figure out a way to hook up without making my office into a sauna. Perhaps I could set up a wireless access point in the garage... I like to think of it as stress-testing these machines for my customers. If they're not completely worn out by the time they get them, they will be certainly broken in well! I'm also running my development machine and my laptop. |

A cluster???? I have two machines running w2k Advanced Server. It has clustering built in. I also have an unused external SCSI hard drive. Do I have the makings of superior wdork unit cruncher? Is BOINC even cluster aware? I've gotten a headache just thinking about it. > LOL > No, you're surely not alone. It's really funny, I'd the same sort of thoughts > yesterday.
