Loss of link

My computer has lost its connection, via the "buttons" on BOINC Manager.
This is a direct result of uninstalling Google Chrome, which had, inadvertently,
been downloaded/installed on my system. The uninstall did not completely
replace components which had been changed, by Google Chrome.

The err. mess.', following each attempt to access BOINC/other BOINC pgrms.,
was: This file does not have a program associated with for performing this
action. Create an association in Set Associations control panel."

The cpdn program, currently running, has no pblm. communicating via
the internet.

Rebooting my system (Sony VAIO, w/Windows Vista Business), or reinstalling
the BOINC operating system, do not correct the problem.

Contact with Google has not been productive.

Thus far, I have been looking in the registry, and may either:

1) Reload/install Google Chrome, and comparing any changes in the
registry (assuming such an approach is valid). After changes are
made in the registry, uninstalling the Chrome would be done.

2) A complete system recovery -- not desired, if possible.

Ques., for the reader: Has this problem ever been seen, before,
and, what approaches, from BOINC perspective, might be made?
(Does any software person know what files may have been affected?)

ps, The only way I can access BOINC/Seti, currently, is via the
http route (ISP).

Thanks, in advance,

jm

You should be able to fix it by changing your default browser in the system preferences.

Arkayn -- Thanks, for the info.

Is System Preferances accessed from a button in the BOINC Manager?
Not all the buttons are active, currently.

No, go to the Start Menu, select Control Panel, then click Programs, then click Default Programs, then click Set Your Default Programs. Select the browser that you use and click Set This Program As Default.

It worked, Arkayn. Thank you for the easy fix.

What puzzles me, however, is that Internet Explorer is already my browser.
Perhaps, it isn't the "default" (My ISP is Earthlink, but I access it,
via IE.). Evidently, Google preempted it.

Any new browser will want to make itself the default when it gets installed. Some of them are polite enough to ask you first, others aren't and just do it. Or it could be the person who installed it (if it wasn't you) said yes.

9NJFE -- It appears to have been an issus of politeness, here.
Well, all's well that . . .
