As usual, the occasion this year was a fitting tribute. But as Dimbleby signed off by saying "Just 2 minutes silence, just once a year, seems so little to give, to those who gave so much". Food for thought.


Simple answer to that. Get rid of the second Bank Holiday in May and move it to November 11. That way, the fallen will never be forgotten.

We call it Remembrance Day over here and it is observed on November 11 - Monday this year.

One thing some don't realize is it is a day for all veterans of all wars, not just World War 1 and World War 2.

The latest veterans in Canada would be the approx 25000 CAF members who went to Afghanistan. 157 of them died over there. One of those was the older brother of a friend of mine, killed in an IED attack in 2010.

Veterans Day on this side of the pond on Monday.

Here in the USA, on the anniversary of the end of hostilities in World War One, we honor All who served. On the last Monday in May, we honor those who gave, as Mr. Lincoln so aptly put it, that last full measure of devotion to their country.

But those of us who served, and are now serving, remember our Departed Comrades and Shipmates EVERY day.
