My apologies to all of my wing persons, but my i7/930 machine will be down for at least a week due to a frozen SSD system drive. I won't be able to request a rma until at least Monday morning. It's only 5 months old and shouldn't have any problem getting it replaced. The one on my other machine only took a week. It seems that if a SSD enters a frozen state, there is nothing that a user can do at their end and it must be returned/replaced, which is what happened the last time. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

Are you running BOINC from those SSD's or on a separate HDD? Cheers. |

If this has happened twice to you were there any similarities between the two failures? Make/model of ssd? Was it your rma'd drive or a different one? Any overclocking of the buss? |

Are you running BOINC from those SSD's or on a separate HDD? I was wondering that to. I have an SSD on my first I7 3770 but I was told at the time that they are not robust enough to crunch with. So it is my back up hard drive. Seeing how the OP has had two failures tells me that they still are not robust enough. [/quote] Old James |

Are you running BOINC from those SSD's or on a separate HDD? I've had no problems with mine so far, touches wood (finger to head), though I only use it for the OS and most applications, everything else goes on the HDD's like my document libraries, storage of files and BOINC so that very few rewrites actually happen on the SSD's. I reckon that if I had the BOINC data directory on a SSD it wouldn't last very long at the rate I go through work with the constant rewriting and a SSD will in no way that I can see help improve crunching times at all. I do like 15sec boot times though. Cheers. |

The SSD is the same make/model/size as the other one, but on the 930 machine and neither machine is oc'ed. On both machines the SSD is the system drive and BOINC resides on another drive (HDD). All other programs run on the system drive. The odd thing is that Windows Computer Management & HWINFO64 report that the drive is working perfectly and has 100% of drive life remaining. I can run Windows error checking on it and it comes back clean. It seems that the boot sector (EFI) is corrupted as it does not even boot. I've dropped it into the 950 machine to attempted to format it. Windows says it formatted successfully, but only as a data drive, not as a system drive, but when I look at it via the Samsung Magician, a utility that comes with their SSDs, it says that the disk is frozen, not functional. I like the SSDs and would hate to go back to having the system on an HDD. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

The B-SYS (i7/930) machine is back up and crunching and is in the process of catching up, running several tasks in hi-pri on the earliest deadline of 11/17. To all of my wing persons (women, men, boys, girls, setizens of all ages and especially to all my fellow vets, old, young and in between), hang in there things will back to what should be normal shortly.
