Me too:'( But what can we do, we're nobodies... The ones with the big money should be addressed with this problem and I'm working on that.

LHC has a lower energy than cosmic rays, gamma-ray sources and other violent phenomena in the Universe. The danger is not in LHC but in a gamma-ray blast in our Galaxy. It would wipe out all life on Earth.

Scientists can also be wrong. Hawking is a theoretical physicist, not an astronomer.I am running LHC simulations on my computer and I am still alive.

Dr.Hawking has an illuminated mind, he sees things other 'ordinary' scientists cannot see. Peter Higgs is also like Dr. Hawking.

Hawking said that the Higgs boson would not be found. Instead it was found.Higgs is more humble. I am following his lessons from Edinburgh University.

Higgs seems more humble because we practically hear anything from him in the media. At least Dr.Hawking tries to bring some sense into people!

About the 'God's particle'=> I think Hawking had his reasons to say what he said. It's such a fragile terrain of science in which the Higgs Boson was 'found'

God's particle was create by a publisher in search of a title. Leon Lederman wanted to call it a Goddam particle because it was so difficult to locate it. All of science is subject to revision and improvements, but media simply want the scoop. Science does not advance with scoops.

That's why I put it between ' ' Tullio:) The media has such a big influence on the general population hence all the mass hysteria we see these days.

A bestseller in Italy is "Sette brevi lezioni di fisica" by Carlo Rovelli, an Italian physicist working at Aix-Marseille. I recommend it as the right kind of popularization. The Italian publisher is Adelphi.

can't get a dime of public support.

This won't change until we decode Earth's first received message from out in the Cosmos.

There is a strong suspicion that other civilizations, if they in fact exist, are just too far away to detect.

I think so too; but I am not certain. My premise however is easily falsified.

The Higgs boson was found. What was not found is any supersymmetry particle foreseen in strings theory. This is why physicists want to raise the LHC energy to 15 TeV, in the hope of finding them.

I am following a course on the Higgs boson by the University of Edinburgh. The course is chaired by Peter Higgs and I believe him.

CERN has built a line of machines starting with the Proton Synchrotron, then the Super Proton Synchrotron, then the Large Electron Positron, then LHC. Each time they have learned from the previous experiences and have left behind both Russian and American machines. They certainly know what they are doing.

UK, for political reasons, did not want any European cooperation in High Energy Physics and Plasma Physics, Aircraft Industry and Space Industry, and they were wrong.

LHC back on line this year. I think it was badly designed and badly constructed in the first place, I am not a fan of it.

LHC news

Yes, next month:( We have a saying in Dutch 'ik hou mijn hart al vast' (I'm holding my heart already) Meaning I'm really afraid.

Do tell us how you would have built it and operate it.
