All right folks. I know I haven't been around long, and even though I have read up on NTPCkr on the forum and website, I am still scratching my head about why we have yet to see any current results from this system. I understand that it is something that costs money/people and that there is unlimited fundage, and that is an obvious valid issue.

But it does seem like at some point with the donations that do come in, that some of the money, however little, should have been allocated to NTPCkr by now; enough so to have it up and visible to the public if it is indeed running.

All the old-timers here on the forums and/or project people: Please enlighten me to what's up with this system, as you can obviously see I haven't a clue! ;) It sounds like it is something to help in all the data that's been collected, distributed to us crunchers, and then returned to S@H. Why do we still not have the NTPCkr system in place?

Part of the Server GeorgeM is allocated to Nitpicker, but that part is currently disabled. The server is being used foe many other important tasks though. As I understand it, it was initially intended to have a dedicated server for Nitpicker, but the Seti infrastructure was such that when a server was acquired for that purpose, it made more operational sense to use it for other tasks. If I am wrong then I am sure hat someone with more knowledge than me will correct what I have said.

As a 12 year cruncher, no-one more than me wants to see a Nitpicker up and running, but I don't have any high hopes in the immediate future. I sincerely hope I am wrong.

I was under the impression that a version of NTPCkr is being run, just not on a public facing machine.

+1... but it's true that having access to this kind of information (as before) would be appreciated by all.

I smell a S@H conspiracy in the works! "There is a hidden NTPCkr!" and "No there isn't, they just want you to THINK there's a NTPCkr running out of the public eye!" :D

If there is one, it would be cool to see it working. There's even a place on the forums to discuss NTPCkr stuff, so the intention was there all along to make it public...if the NTPCkr is running behind the scenes, they need to again make it available to the public - sure would like to see all the crunching we've done stand for something other than filling a database.

Unlimited funds would be nice. :^) Take it that was "limited".

There is a GPUUG project to raise funds for a dedicated 24/7 public NTPCKR. I did a weekend fundraiser a while ago that was very successful, so have been trying to find out from the SAH team if they need this, or any other hardware to get the Kepler survey at Green Bank going, which I've earmarked funds for to do another weekend fundraiser or equivalent, but so far I've been waiting a few months to find out.

What I (think I) know thus far:

1) Things are up in the air since the colo move, and the staff are very busy. Things should settle down soon and we'll know what's required.

2) The private NTPCKR is thus because the code isn't completely functional enough to call it production for public viewing. Once it's completed we should start seeing it again.

Yeah, sorry. I'm glad you read it right though. hehe.

That's a pretty darn good explanation, and it makes perfect sense. Thanks Mr. Kevvy!

(But that's what THEY want us to believe!) :D heheh

Or of course since they no longer need anyone to look after the servers they will cut back on staff.

I am glad the GPUUG has enough funds for the 24/7 public NTPCKR as the website says $19,446 to go

So I'm confused. Instead of donating to S@H and my money goes into a general fund, there are groups out there that are raising money for specific items like NTPCkr? If so, that's where I should send my money :D
