CLinfo says the same with both cards installed;

Now I will again remove the 3650 so BOINC will work with my 4670.

Just a thought...
Ive seen that when there are 2 different GPUs BOINC reports both of them as if they were the same... Probably as if all were like the one detected as device 0...
Have you tried swapping the cards in the slots?

I think it's pretty obvious where the problem exist. I'm not going to jump through any more hoops with this machine until a new version of BOINC is released. I used up most of my hoop jumping with the 6850 and the (0xc0000005) Error.

This is a problem with the Catalyst drivers, not BOINC. Both cards should be OpenCL capable, but apparently AMD messed that up. Until the drivers are fixed, put the 4670 in the lower slot so it is GPU 0 and the 3650 in the higher slot so it is GPU 1. That will almost certainly fix your problem. (I am the author of BOINC's OpenCL detection code.)

?

The Minimum AMD/ATI GPU to have OpenCL support are HD4*** GPUs, Earlier GPUs have never had OpenCL support, being CAL devices Only, But starting at APP SDK 2.7, OpenCL support is deprecated for HD4*** GPUs (I think it depends on the driver installed):

Hmmmm, interesting. I'll give it a try in a few hours. I'm convinced the 3650 won't do OpenCL. My goal was to connect the 3650 to the monitor so the 4670 could just work the AP and not be burdened with other tasks. Then later try the new Brook+ on the 3650. I've managed to get the E5200 Wolfdale to work an AP in around 8.5 hours, if the 3650 could just shave off a little more I'd be happy.

On further research, I see that AMD split off the drivers for older "legacy" GPUs from those for newer ones. One of my sources believes it was associated with the upgrade of the software for the newer GPUs from OpenCL 1.0 to OpenCL 1.1. I believe that the last driver before that split was Catalyst 12.4: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalystSoftwareSuiteVersion124ReleaseNotes.aspx. You might want to see if the 3650 supports OpenCL with that driver installed. (In addition to BOINC, you can try clinfo again to see if it then reports both GPUs.)

If so, then I recommend you submit a bug report at http://www.amd.com/legacyreport stating that the HD 3650 has lost OpenCL support under the new legacy driver. Be sure to tell them you have both the HD 3650 and HD 4670 installed.

Please post to this forum if you learn anything more. We at BOINC want to make sure we have the openCL code working correctly. Thank you for your support of BOINC and SETI@home.

Cheers,

Ah, I missed that point. I know on some systems, OpenCL won't detect a card unless it has either a monitor or a dummy plug attached. I don't know if that applies to your system.

For now, things are working. The 3650 is working the much used monitor, the 4670 the less used HDTV. I'm not sure about the consequences of having to use <exclude_gpu>...

Just a thought...
Ive seen that when there are 2 different GPUs BOINC reports both of them as if they were the same... Probably as if all were like the one detected as device 0...
Have you tried swapping the cards in the slots?

I think it's pretty obvious where the problem exist.

yep... the problem is: You can't run SETI (or BOINC) without jumping hoops... LOL

Previously you mentioned you used 'Use All Coprocessors'. Did you ever try it with <use_all_gpus>0</use_all_gpus> (the default value if not entered) to see if BOINC would ignore the older card on its own?

It does still point to an issue with BOINC incorrectly using a card that it was set to ignore.

Both of TBar's CLinfo reports are correct, it is Boinc that is misreporting OpenCL support for the HD3650:

The real problem is in cross-identification of particular CAL and particular OpenCL device as the same physical GPU.

The real problem is in cross-identification of particular CAL and particular OpenCL device as the same physical GPU.

My cards are now being listed as "[2] AMD ATI Radeon HD 4600 series (R730)". Having the Slot arrangement somehow determining which card is listed has having OpenCL is really strange. Even though the '2600' is now not listed as having OpenCL, the program must still think it does have OpenCL as it is Starting an AP task with the card. This is the same problem I had back in November on this Host with Windows XP, BOINC 7.0.36, and AMD Catalyst 12.1. Back then I just removed the 3650 and concentrated on getting the 6850 working on my other Host...

Thank you to everyone for all your assistance and information. Until this week, we had believed that all CAL-capable GPUs were also OpenCL capable, and that assumption in the BOINC logic is causing it to mess up when a card like the HD3650 is installed.

We are studying how to fix this problem. Unfortunately this is not an easy fix, so it may be a bit of time before we have a solution.

Thanks for the update Charlie. It does appear to be a major change. This might solve one of the problems with the Brook+ App where one of the difficulties is determining how to send work to those cards with CAL but not OpenCL.

I have written some experimental code which I hope will resolve your problem. Would you be willing to test it with your 2 GPUs installed? If you would send me your email address in a private message, I will email you a test build of the BOINC client to try.

Thanks you for your support of BOINC and SETI@home.
