I pretty sure I upgraded my old account to BOINC a long time ago, but I've beeon off-line for a while. Interestingly yesterday it allowed me to create a new account with the same. Sice it allowed it I was hoping it would tie the two together when it reported, but no such luck.

I'm pretty sure the old account was with an email of firstname.lastname@example.org, but that domain only exists as a dns server now. Since I now have two accounts with the same name did I break any chance of recovering the old one? I have the Cross project identifier for both accounts as well if it helps in any way. I'll also keep searching for my backups. I'm sure my situation is not unique, but I did not find a similar thread in my searches beyond those that were still classic.
To close the loop if this is found by someone else:
I had updated to BOINC serveral years ago, and I was able to recover the account by finding an account_setiathome.berkley.edu.xml file on a backup. From this I grabbed the code from between the authenticator tags and log in with it at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/get_passwd.php.
The unique identifier is the email address, not the name. Many accounts can have the same name, but only one will have a given email address. If you can log into the old email address, you can change the login information to match current reality. NOTE that accounts cannot be merged.
