Pasta is dry stuff that comes in 1- or 2-pound boxes at the grocery store, in about 2038 different varieties these days. Elbow macaroni, whole wheat elbow macaroni, rotini, whole wheat rotini, tri-color rotini...

You boil some water and dump some pasta in, and in a few minutes you drain it and add cheese.

Interesting variation: I bought some frozen Italian beef (immediately, everyone more than 100 miles from Chicago says "What's that?") and added water to stretch the liquid. There's enough beef for about three meals. After that, I started adding frozen meatballs. Then I started adding pasta to the pot and, after it was cooked, fishing it out with a slotted spoon and adding cheese.

well the sort of pasta you would usually measure with it is spaghetti - or in fact all the long thin ones.
As 'how to use' you select the amount of portions on the side and then you make a bundle that just fits through the hole. It probably takes a few attempts until you know which size accomodates your portion.

Ok, girls and guys - what is the follwoing object used for?

I've no idea what it's officially called, so I'll go by a proper description of what it is used for.
I've not been following the thread closely, so please alert me if the item was already used and I'll try to find something else.
