Message 1339544 - Posted: 20 Feb 2013, 4:07:45 UTC - in response to Message 1339520.

I think I finally got an Error with the Debug build running. Unfortunately, it appears the 7.0.45 'Restart Feature' and the Debugger don't play well. I got a BSOD instead of a report. I don't have BOINC set to run at login, so I was able to look through the slots before BOINC started again. There was nothing there of any value. Complete waste of time. I'll go back to 7.0.44, which doesn't have the 'Restart Feature', and try it again. That is, as soon as I get the machine working again. I think the BSOD did something to the ATI driver, things are not going very well. I'm uninstalling the driver at present, it's taking a very long time. If that ever finishes, I'll reinstall it and try again...

Could you recall any additional info about that BSoD ?
What type of BSoD ? You could run WhoCrashed app to get more details from stored memory minidump (on by default should be).

I installed WhoCrashed but the last crash it list is from November last year, nothing about todays'. I did take a picture though. The important part read;
Stop:0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x8A5F9DAO, 0x8A5F9F14, 0x805D22AA)

It was nasty. I ended up reinstalling both drivers twice, and running Check Disk about 4 times before I could move through folder windows without them hanging and going unresponsive. I guess it's fixed, things aren't hanging anymore...

It can be HDD-connected. BSoD 0xF4 usually link with HDD troubles.
And here http://sonikelf.com/complete/237-sinij-ekran-smerti-stop-0x000000f4-reshenie-problemy.html issue was integrated network controller.

This Microsoft KB article on that stop code is interesting: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981369

"If you press a key when a console application is exiting, the computer may crash."

"The issue occurs because of an access violation that happens when the Csrss.exe process tries to access a freed console structure. Then the Csrss.exe process stops unexpectedly and the computer crashes."

I think the screen that had the BOINC Manager running sums it up better. There was a dialog box caught in the process of opening. One can only wonder what that box was going to print if the system hadn't had frozen when it did.

Message 1339742 - Posted: 20 Feb 2013, 18:04:45 UTC - in response to Message 1339735.

Probably "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884538 - and probably under many more circumstances, as well)

As Rom Walton said to Raistmer on the alpha mailing list yesterday,

"Without that in place, the next thing Windows will do is throw up a dialog asking the volunteer if they want to report the crash to Microsoft. 30-40 of those in a night and the volunteers will get upset in a hurry."

Besides downgrading to BOINC 7.0.44, is there anything else I should do? That Hotfix was a very long time and a service pack ago. If you look at the ATI AP progress bar, the App was a ways from the end. This Computation Error we are looking for usually happens at the End of the process. I'm not sure why this happened when it did, and it was the first time it had occurred.

But that was in place in this rev... I did not disable BOINC's exception interception in that build.

EDIT: and as TBar noticed there are no ending tasks in system. So this BSoD very probably not directly connected with thread's issue.

Here are two, good ones... Look at the top two Errors; Error AstroPulse v6 tasks

As a Bonus, someone else received the same Error in the same Workunit; Workunit 1173587804

Hope that helps.

Message 1343007 - Posted: 4 Mar 2013, 18:01:58 UTC

I have been told to post here.

I used to get Astro Pulse Computation Errors on approx 1 out of every 3 AP WU's processed. Today however I got a comp error on 3/3 of AP WU's processed whereupon I flipped and just set BOINC to not get AP WU's.

Screenie: http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/8760/clipboard02wg.jpg

My setup:

BOINC client 7.0.28 x86
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX 9650 mildly OC'd @ 3.3 GHz
Gigabyte Nividia GTX 580 SOC, Driver Version 310.90, running @ Stock
4GB DDR2 running @1102 MHz

Hope this helps you to troubleshoot this issue. For my part, I won't even bother with AP WU's again as they are just a huge waste of time.

During the time my GPU needs to finish an AP WU I can run from seven (7) "help conquer cancer 7.05" WU's to ten (10) "help conquer cancer 7.05" WU's.

Cheers and have fun.

And how you decided that 10 "help cure chancer" worth more that 1 AstroPulse? What criterion of usefulness was used? ;)
And no, screeenshot with errors will not help to debug them.
But look into your host web page will.

Like I said before and they deleted it, it's called "philanthropy".

A philanthropic task>any and all Astropulse WU's.

Cure for cancer or cure for current humanity madness - what is more "philantropic"?... But it's rhetorical question. YMMV.

Raistmer, you are probably the one that can answer this. Can you fathom a reason why SETI has suddenly started flagging the results from your App r1363 against your App r1316? This is the second in as many days, Workunit 1179717706. I've already switched back to r1316 for my 2 at a time 6850 'testing'. For my card, it seems you have to lower the -ffa_block setting to avoid the 'Out of Resources Error' when running 2. I'm still testing. I still haven't received another 'Access Violation (0xc0000005)'...yet.

1316 and 1363 are the same source in principle.

Try lower unroll and FFA_Block_fetch first.

Those Invalids were with a setting of 6/4096/4096 while running two at a time. I've run both versions at 12/8192/4096 for weeks without any 'Invalids'. I've recently upped it to 12/4096/4096 while running 2 and I'm still not at a steady 95% GPU usage yet. I'm beginning to think it was the sbs setting causing the resource error when I first went to 2. I'm about to try 12/6144/1536.

Oh well.
Never got the chance at 12/6144/1536. After a few successful runs at 12/4096/4096, I again received the Resource Error on second task startup;
<![CDATA[
<message>
3T²@ - exit code -1 (0xffffffff)
</message>
...
state.fold_buf_size_short=65536; state.fold_buf_size_long=262144Info : Building Program (binary, clBuildProgram):main kernels: OK code 0
Error in ap oclFFT_1: -5ERROR: clFFT_Execute: -5ERROR: Enqueueing kernel onto command queue. (dechirp_range_kernel)
ERROR code: CL_OUT_OF_RESOURCES
What does that mean? It happens in the first 10 seconds of startup.
I'm back at 8/6144/1536 and running 2 at around 90% GPU load...for a while.

Have you got it sorted yet? The Debugger is still running, here is a fresh one for you; ap_07oc12ae_B1_P0_00061_20130224_25925.wu_0

I'm due for another...

It's possible with overflowed tasks. And this one overflowed. Different params can lead to slightly different sets of found signals due to single GPU pass. And, cause storage space is limited, one app stops not founding slightly better signals that another one did found (check for overflow performed after GPU pass).
Cause we don't collect all signals for such tasks they should be considered as noise and don't have scientific value anyway. But validation miss will decrease performance of course.

SETI apps news
We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them.
