If we switch to Seti Beta the same problem will not apears?

So how long before cpompleted work units that are on my system will get transferred back to SETI? I've got 21 showing waiting to report, and nothing to do...

Quite probably; at the moment I can't report or obtain new work at SETI Beta.

If you applied all of your computing resources there, Juan, there'd be scant left for the rest of us! ;)

Thanks for the honest and clear answer, thats exactly what i belive that could happend, i realy don´t want to leave trouble to anybody.

Most of the people could not belive but i realy just want to participate in the finding ET quest, one of my children dream, an see an oportunity to do that on SETI.

I know for some, i have a lot of resources avaiable because i could use my company computers (actualy we have a lot more hosts that i could put to crunch but i need to keep the power bill not to high), all the time i was thinking that was good for the project.

If everyone did, yes. But only a small percent even read these forums. Even less will switch. So probably not.

Thanks for the info.
Perhaps you should consider the new NVIDIA. I have an hour in 1800 WU'S errors produced. the load on the server, before I noticed it. Only an optimized client that has solved probelm.
How many user build one with Kepler GPU architecture. Who do not know it and load the server with many error-wu's.
excuse my english!

There might be a simpler solution: Deadline of AP units is approx. 14 days whereas MUs deadline is some 45 days. Cut MU deadline by half and you'll have less units "in the air" and less units pending in your database.

In this case it is not going to help. It usually goes down the same time as SETI. Even if you have work from SETI beta it would cut your work and processing for regular SETI in half.
Depending on your settings.
So the result to you having work would be the same.
However they are many other worthwhile BOINC projects.
You can set to run when you have no work from SETI.

People from the lab:

For the last time please...try... you have nothing to loose... and a lot to win... if works...

Take your time, the entire process will take few hours or days...

- Turn the MB-Spliter ON, Only at LANDO

- After that make the same with the AP-Spliters , Only an LANDO Again!

- Wait to everything stabilizes, maybe an hour or two... go for a coffe, do another thing, what ever, just wait, if after that all woks ok go to the next step.

- Start ONE Spliter on Synergy, ONLY ONE at a time, you choose AP or MB but only ONE each time...

- Wait to everything stabilizes, maybe an hour or two... go for a coffe, do another thing, what ever, just wait, if after that all woks ok go to the next step.

- Repeat until...

At some moment the problem will be appears, then fall back (turn off the last splitter), and leave all working at that treshold...

If works, Everybody will receive work (probabily less WU will be generating DL/UL but few is better than no one), AP & MB, be happy and give some time to thinkg about and do other more productive tasks...

If no, nothing is loose, we will still out of work...

Then with all in mind, waiting for MATT´s returns... to help finaly fix the problem.

So we are going to be having this same problem for months eh!!!.

Wow, at least we have an explanation but I am not sure I like the answers.
Couple months of this an I will be ready for the hospital... LOONEY BIN

If this is really going to do that to you, you're giving it entirely too much importance. This is a volunteer scientific project. Temporarily not being able to do it, or at least not do it at your full capacity, is not going to mean the end of the world* and it is not going to hurt you in any way. If it is, you need to rearrange your life's priorities.

*Unless the slowdown means we don't process the warning of a Romulan or Dalek invasion in time to do something about it. ;-)

I should be the last guy to say this because of my previous posts, but...

Let's all have some patience. Be it days, weeks or months.

There are other projects.

I agree seti is what is called pure research, no money goal at the end.
The government used to pay for this kind of research and this kind of research is at the bases of almost every thing we take for granted today. So when the grand children ask what it was like before alien contact hopefully you will be able to tell them that you held party's or garage sales or saved aluminium cans to help fund seti. Because the next time you eat fast food the restaurant probably spent more on salaries then seti had for budget last year. And yes it is a pain when seti goes down but more donations could fix a lot of that.

As an admin, I can imagine what that means.
Hope you don't work too many night shifts.
DBMSs have teier natural limits and database-design can do magic to "overcome" or "expand" those limits ;-)
Good luck and I keep my fingers crossed :-)

I am concerned about the approach of increasing the size of WU. This is especially true for GPU WU since once a GPU Task is running it hold on to the processor until it is complete. I use to run both SETI and Einstein GPU Tasks but opted out of Einstein because the size of the WU was so large it made doing any kind of cooperative processing a non-starter.

Until Task switching for the GPU gets sorted out the size of GPU WU needs to stay relatively short (less than 1 or 2 hours GPU time).

First to the staff i realize that what you are doing is hard so thanks for the hard work and good luck.
Second would it be possible to move the comment boards to a different server so when things crash on the work side we can still find out what to do or what is going on wright now in bad crashes the boards go down too.
Third 1 or 2 hour jobs for what, my hd6870 will run 24 astropulse jobs a day my5770 12 and my 5770's 4 jobs a day each my 8 core cpu will run about 1 a day per core.
you can in preferences set the number of core's and gpu's, yes or no to using cpu,gpu the % of cpu and gpu time that can be used so if running at 100% makes work difficult then a adjust the preferences.
There are many of us out here that have saved our nickels and dimes and have stuffed a better gpu or two or three or have built second machines so the larger work unit is welcome.
If you are adamant about the work unit size then help support the raising of enough money to endow 1 full time programmer that could take care of things like a vary able size work unit based on benchmark or just donate because it is a good thing!

I offered a domain name, still registered.
But the boyz in da lab have been to busy, or never saw the need or wish to utilize it.

setiisdown.com

The kitties will give up a bit of kibble to maintain it if the staff wants to use it.

Otherwise, it shall expire in a half a year or so.

Eric knows how to contact me if he ever wishes to pursue using it.

looks like you may be infected
It is unlikely the seti@home server infected you it is running unix os,but theres is a vary vary small chance of cross platform infection any body else see this?
After looking this up you probably were infected by a fake flash file it looks nasty if you can wipe system with out losing important file's recomend wipe and reload.

There have also been more than a few false positive virus responses with various AV programs over the years......may be nothing to worry about.
Don't really know what to suggest. I don't run any AV on my crunching rigs. And have never been trashed.
