Whew! I see the dust is settling now in the cooking thread. Carlos, thank you for your operational definition. You people take your cooking tools very seriously!!!

I am sorry about the dog chains. I really do use them exclusively for cooking, but the nay-sayers are correct - they are not sold as cooking tools.

So, just to clarify, food service items are a "no - no" too? A weird fish fork or something would be out? I did not see a line about food service utensils in Carlos' definition.

Thank you for the clarification and thank you for the "win".

It is Monday, however, who gets to make that call...

Explanation please.

Why would anyone want to "core" a grapefruit?

It makes it easier to get the chain around it.

But for the sake of all logic Carlos. A kitchen tool musn't neccessary be made for food stuff. There's lots of things in the kitchen not directly related to prepping or making food. Why would the fish fork be excluded? Isn't fish food then? Isn't the dishwasher in the kitchen, or the refrigerator, or the freezer, or the stove? Isn't tools or gadget made for those things kitchen tools?

To prep or make food, I need my dishwasher (or my tools wouldn't be usable) I need the stove with the tools it has, I need the fridge too, and the freezer. I need everything connected with the kitchen of course, even my special kitchen lighting stuff, and then all stuff sold as kitchen tools or utenzils, or gadgets, must of course be included in the term "Mystery kitchen tool".

I'd better give up the whole thing, because I just don't understand the logic used here. I just can not get my brain to understand why it's so hard to understand what goes and not goes in the term "Mystery kitchen tool".

If it's sold as a kitchen whatever, it must of course be a kitchen whatever.

Now this is getting extremely weird. Why should a fish fork even if strange be excluded? It belongs in the kitchen and is related to food.

Why the heck is it so hard to understand that a dog chain would be excluded, but not a fish fork even if strange looking?

Sometimes I think that we're not only living on different parts of the planet, but on entirely different planets. The logic used, or not used, on different parts of this planet, might as well be from totally different planets.

I'd better stop participating in games like this because I simplay can't understand how on this green earth people can have such difficulties to understand the simplest ot things. Geeze, if a thing is made for the kitchen, be that for food or for the dishwasher, or stove, ot the kitchen sink, then it must qualify as a kitchen tool.

At first I thought Carlos had explained it perfectly, but then Angela came in with the fork thing, and then that was excluded, although it clearly belongs in the kitchen.

Why make it so difficult when it really is so simple. The thread title is "Mystery kitchen tool", how could that be misunderstood to mean something else than what it says? A tool MADE for the kitchen, must be of any type, made for usage in the kitchen. Even a special lighting device made for kitchens should qualify as belonging in a thread with the name "Mystery kitchen tool".

You do other things in the kitchen than prepare or cook food, so a "Mystery kitchen tool", must include tools used in the kitchen (and made for the kitchen) for other purposes than preparing or cooking food. Otherwise lots of tools alreayd posted in that thread would be out immediately. You don't use a cork screw to prep food. The fish tongs would be out too (if the fish fork is out). The tea infuser would go, since tea is no food. Lots of already posted pics would go, even if they clearly are made for usage in the kitchen. See, this is ridicolous.

What's wrong with the logic used on this message board????

Geeze....

Sure, but at least we need to know how to play the game. I don't take the game too seriously, but if it is a game, there has to be clear and easily to understand rules.

My bad. Service utensils ARE allowed, per Carlos' operational definition.

Sten-Arne, what is the adult beverage of choice in your country? Whatever it is, please uncork a bottle and enjoy a little nip. May the spirit of fun be with you, my friend.

I agree with Angela's agreement with me. A fork is tool to serve food.
Pass the bottle.... which can also be found in the kitchen and used to both serve and store food. Store? Should I have included store food? Yes I think it belongs. So tool made to prepare, served or store food. Any more?

Since this is the off topic season until Eric get's around to post a pic. I think there is a book in the Guestroom about flying pigs. I know there is one about Donkeys.
