Brief update - I have now spoken directly to John, and he is feeling fine and everything is going as well as could be expected. But it does look like that he will be in hospital for the full three weeks. In fact, he was more worried that there may have been a power cut at home affecting his computers. So I went into Boincstats for him and confirmed that his RAC was as normal and hadn't dropped, which pleased him no end!

So Rob, his sense of humour is fine, no worries there :-)

Quick update - Had a call from John this afternoon. Johns old immune system has gone, and the white cell count is nearly zero. The new stem cells have been injected and are expected to work very shortly. The side effect of all this is unfortunately frequent loo visits. But everything is on track.

He is 50% through the hospitalisation and is expecting to go home in 10-12 days.

I have just spoken to John in the hosptital. As is only to be expected with no immune system, he is more or less confined to a small area immediately around his own room, which is one of 16 in the isolation ward. He is a little depressed at the moment, but this is completely normal. The White cell count should increase measurably over the w/e and be well on the mend early next week.

I'll ring Sheila later and pass on all our good wishes to cheer her up as well.

I'll pray for John and Sheila that they might find the strength and courage to get through this ordeal.
