Hopefully I can get in touch with them soon so we can begin work on new projects.

More bandwidth from the lab to the internet.
Please, please, please.

That's a political issue, not a funding issue.

And politics always needs funding.

At the moment, the lack of bandwidth is the biggest issue that needs addressing.

EDIT- make that the 2nd biggest.
The forum changing to it's preferred settings over my set preferences after making a post is really begining to p!$$ me off no end.

How restrictive is the university in terms of coming up with alternate forms of data transfer? Satellite, or cell, or setting up a WiFi at a nearby business willing to donate space for a router and access point and broadcasting to it? If it doesn't need wires in the walls, is it OK?

I would imagine that a cellphone provider or two might be willing to give up a bit of bandwidth for free, in exchange for a tax return and the possibility of some pretty fun/interesting commercials which would also raise awareness of the SETI@Home program. Drop one of those little cell towers in the window of the server room, and viola! Bandwidth!

Or perhaps put the web page stuff out on the cloud somewhere? Same tactics.

Even if it can't be gotten for free, I'm sure the bottleneck for data can be addressed to some degree very cheaply, if it's allowed. That's the catch though. Will the university allow any sort of wireless connection from the lab - even if it's paid for with donations?

Hey guys,

The lack of communication was due mainly to a lack of manpower. Over the past month the office has been really understaffed as folks were spread out at other locations and so on.

Good news time:

1. Over the past week I've been in touch w/ Eric, Jeff and Matt which has given us two potential projects to work on which are dependent on #2

2. We may have acquired a hardware donation partnership for some high end equipment for the project which will be a big boon to the project as a whole. More on this as it develops which should be very soon.

3. Today I received a letter in the mail awarding the GPU Users Group our 501c3 status (EIN 45-2969708). I'll post a picture of the documents on our website tomorrow sometime after I have several celebratory drinks. The road toward getting our approval was very long and took literally a hundred hours + of work on my end, $400 from our donors and much time. Today is a BIG day for us.

That's all I have. I'm off to have a drink in loving appreciation of our donors who have propelled us steadily towards today.

For those who are concerned with our current bandwidth limitations please have a bit of patience with us. We're working together to solve this issue.

Before we can do anything serious we first have to upgrade the infrastructure. In the same way you have to build an interstate highway before allowing 200 cars per minute to travel east and west, we have to upgrade.

So in short have patience and continue to be as awesome as ever in supporting our projects.

In the meantime, here's this thing (which I'm overly proud of)
