But its not a crisis. A food shortage is a crisis. SETI@Home's servers going out is a mere inconvenience.

I would call it no more than a temporary irritation myself. But then again I'm not obsessed with it like some. I feel sorry for those who are.

But its not a crisis. SETI@Home's servers going out is a mere inconvenience. It's called priorities. I care plenty for SETI and the scientific search, but I know that there are plenty of things in life more important than SETI's servers going down. I agree with what Chris S. said, I feel sorry for those that think SETI is so important that a few hours down is a crisis situation that needs a stop the presses announcement to let people know.

I understand your concern, but if I may change the subject; will someone please explain to me what is the benefit of getting credits for allowing SETI to use our PC's in this manner? I have 600+ credits, and I don't know what to do with them.

You can use them as bragging rights or you can use them to compare your machines to other people's.

And so you can compare your points with others, we call them in dutch milepalen and we always thank the crunchers;) http://forum.seti.nl/showthread.php?13585-Mijlpalen&p=566338#post566338 ____________
