I just upgraded my pc, got new motherboard, cpu and ssd. So I have a fresh install of windows 7 64 on ssd. I have old hard drive installed with old boinc directory intact. So I installed boinc today on old drive. Boinc manager popped up, showing cpu processing. Then I closed boinc manager to system tray or atleast I thought. Next I tried to add to sytem tray, but could not. So I start task manager and force seti + boinc closed. Next from start menu launch boinc and says trying to commninace, but cannot. So I am thinking that maybe I did not install properly. |

I just upgraded my pc, got new motherboard, cpu and ssd. rename your BOINC folder in the old Hard drive. Then simply install BOINC to the new drive. when it prompts you for locations point the data back to the old drives program data/BOINC folder. Stop all BOINC processes at this point. Move all the data from the renamed folder to the newly installed Program Data/BOINC folder. You should be able to restart and have everything working fine at that point In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Kindly tell me what is boinc and what is the use of it i do not have any idea See here BOINC is an interface for unrelated distributed projects to get volunteers to process work that would otherwise take decades or even centuries to complete. To run the work one must attach to the specific project and download a few files. BOINC does all the rest. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

I just upgraded my pc, got new motherboard, cpu and ssd. Better is to stop BOINC on the old machine. Move the entire contents of the BOINC data directory to the new disk. Then point the Data directory of the install to the location it was copied to on the new machine. NOTE: On Vista and 7, you cannot put the BOINC data directory in the program files or program files (x86) directories or sub folders of those. NOTE: The default location for the BOINC data directory on windows XP is c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\BOINC. The default on Vista and 7 is c:\ProgramData\BOINC. The directors application data and ProgramData are both hidden by default. BOINC WIKI |

Thanks it is all sorted now. Is strange that I installed it on the "H" drive which is the old drive, but for some reason there is a Boinc folder on the new "C" drive. |

You have 2 BOINC folders. One in the Program files the other is in the Program Data. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |
