Just now noticed that when I pull up my tasks list, there are now listed AP v6 and Seti v7 for WU totals.

Also check boxes for them in the Seti@home user preferences settings.

Nice but if they where smart I guess they should have removed the AP v5 app.

There will still be reissues running about for some time. I suppose that still gives folks the option of accepting them, or if they wish to receive the new apps only.

Nice that they added preferences on main but, why did they not add them to Beta, where people are actually trying to run V6.

Is there really any left? Didn't know that.

I don't think, that's possible. We are at least two years on 5.05 now, AP tasks have a deadline of about a month and the max. # of total results is 10. Even with 9 timed out results, the thing is over after 9 months, that assuming that timed out results are not counted as errors, in that case it would be just 5 months.

Oh, sh*t. Applications

Hold on tight, gang. This is going to be rough.

DON'T make changes to anything yet. We're on it, but we need to check, test, tweak, test again, check again, tweak.

Stay tuned to this, or a closely related, channel.

Perfect timing Richard. I had just made the change but hadn't hit the update button in the BM so I was able to go back and uncheck them.

Well, AP splitters are running now, but what are they splitting? 5.05 or 6.01? That I would like to know, because if it is 5.05 I can tell my computers to go crazy on them AP's, if it's 6.01, then I have no apps for running them.

Can I scream now?

I'm going downstairs to my test machine now. I may be some time....

I would recommend anybody trying for the new apps to set their cache size to a small value so they can catch problems before their cache fills up with stuff that won't crunch properly.

Thanks - I changed everything else, and forgot that one. Good advice, and timely.

Well, I'm set up and ready. The splitters may be running, but the tasks haven't hit the fan yet. Who suggested that stupid 5-minute backoff, anyway?

(and before anyone answers - yes, it was me)

NEWS before it happens:

Email from Eric:

The big issue is if they [optimised app users] return their results before any from the official clients have been returned, it's hard to tell what will happen. I'd recommend that people using optimized apps turn off astropulse v6 processing for a couple weeks. I'll post a news item to that effect.

The reason being, that they aren't certain until it happens whether opt app users will get any credit. There was a bug at Beta which experienced testers will know all too well - zero credit. It cleared itself without intervention after a couple of months (slow turnover at Beta), but nobody quite knows why.

You have been warned: crunch stock, or (possibly) crunch for zero credit.

Now that wasn't supposed to happen, as far as I know. We were expecting Astropulse v6, but not that.

If I may ask, what software are you running - stock or optimised? Are these new tasks, or existing tasks as well?

There are knobs on the SETI Preferences for S@H v7 and Astro v6, I will wait.

We expect the AP_v6 knobs to work, once the splitters are up to speed. But if you look back to the Applications link I posted a few messages ago - too busy to remake it - you'll see there are no programs listed under SETI v7. Until they appear (they may have done so already, for all I know) the SETI v7 knob won't work.
