you have a management tool that can block specific threads on a forum? How intrusive. My overlords just block sites that are inappropriate for work. Streaming video, game sites, and porn to be specific. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Streaming video, game sites, and porn to be specific. I suspect it's some sort of algorithm or the like which 'calculates' a web page is about what you said, streaming video, gaming, porn etc, and in my case nasty violence going on in SETI forums. Quite often this will, for example, block web pages about ballet or horse dressage as violent, as in "kicking". I wonder if the providers of this 'tool' ever test it on harmless websites. Not that I'm suggesting SETI forums are harmless, that's just me ;) flaming balloons |

Violence. I like it! Lots of violence, the more the better, particularly in the bedroom! Sorry, just loved the name of the thread :) My workplace filters webpages too, a 'websense' application. I can get into the thread you mentioned, though, doesn't filter that one. Never had it let me to a site and not somewhere else... Sometimes it blocks ads on a page, particularly facebook, etc... No gun stores, youtube, social networking, private email, etc... I think it determines content by name though, because a lot of stuff gets through, that probably shouldn't... And some stuff that probably should, doesn't. Like you can shop for guns on cheaperthandirt.com because it only ever displays cheaperthandirt in the URL bar, but if you go to like www.wikipedia.com/guns or something its blocked... So basically it ignores content in favor of web addys. |
