Boinc stopped working and I have a notice that there is a later version. When I click update it takes me to a site in Hebrew to download the new version. I can't read the Hebrew, but I downloaded it anyway. It was a .sh file. I tried to run it, but it says no such command. I added execute with chmod to the file but it still won't execute. I'm not very good with Linux, so I have no idea what to do.

Ubuntu has regular update/upgrades for BOINC. There's no need to install manually unless you are a masochist or are very familiar with Ubuntu.

I don't care about the update except that I thought that may by why it stopped working.

most likely it is. when Ubuntu sets up the BOINC service it does it in the background. If you do it you'll need to edit the BOINC folder to allow access. I'm assuming you didn't chmod your files. so they won't work as Unbuntu auto install had them set up. maunal installs and adding the lunatics apps can be a bit scary and difficult if you aren't all that familiar with the OS. Try reinstalling BOINC from Ubuntu and see if it starts working again
