I meant to say 3 CPU and 2 GPU wu at a time. Works out quite well. The CPUs are pegged at 100% and the GPU runs at >90% most of the time. I have to slow it down if I want to watch a video without it being jerky. Most of the time I put up with it in the interest of science. Hey! I don't have a computer to watch TV right? |

Yes you have to experiment a bit to find out what works best. I tried i GPU task, 2 and then 3. Add to that the mixture of shorties, VLARs and AP wu. I finally gave up on tuning. As for the laptop, I didn't purchase it, I just happened upon it. Had I had my druthers I'd probably gone desktop and NVIDIA. By the by, I haven't heard the term apu used and things change all the time. Is that like a gpGPU? This rig is 1 year old, state of the art then and nearly ancient now. |

It has a Radeon HD Graphics 6550D built right into the CPU. So basically it's all the processing power in one chip. Pretty nice. And, you can also add another discrete GPU card to your PCI Express x16 slot that will work with it for a dual setup. |

The APU is the new integrated CPU/GPU from AMD. It has a Radeon HD Graphics 6550D built right into the CPU ...and the northbridge, all 3 on one chip to be easily cooled by one heatsink. I think Intel did this already with the i7 but AMDs integrated GPU is a bit better. |

Intel is having trouble with the GPU meld efficiency. Still without the Radeon or the Nvidia GPU, I doubt they will ever out do AMD on an all in one chip. |

On a slightly unrelated note, I've now got a dedicated Core i5 2400 system crunching on SETI WUs. A relative supercomputer compared to the Athlon XP system I used to crunch SETI on. Feels great to be back :D |

There's productivity... then there's efficiency. I've noticed my run time is alot greater than my CPU use time. I'm not using the computer so I wonder why that would be. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=2269856210 |

Because most of the heavy lifting was done on your GTX 560. While the GPU was doing the work (run time), your CPU was free to get on with something else. |
