I like to think the optimized apps increase efficiency. My suggestion would be to crunch part time as efficiently as possible, but turn off the computer for enough time each day that the amount of work done is similar to full time crunching with the stock apps. Then donate part of the money saved on electricity bills to the project I have already considered the first bit. I will donate as and when i can,i think this project is a very worthy cause. The boys in the server room are keeping things running great, the crickets are always maxed with only the occasional dip (usually maintenance tuesday) Look back over the graphs,we are going through a good time at this moment when it comes to server uptime. I will donate after the new year, through the GPU users group as that seems to target the money to where it is needed most john3760 |

The only thing I can complain about now, is that most of my completed APs goes into pending, because my computers are obviously much faster than those of my wingmen, which may seem strange because none of my computers are any speed demons. Do all your wingmates also only crunch APs, or do real work as well? :) AndrewM |

My old E6300 does an AP in about 20hrs while my Q6600 @ 3GHz takes 11.5hrs but my 2500K averages 6hrs 10mins to chew through one. They all go straight into pending for ages too. But I'll certainly take more MB work just to stop bouncing off the limits all the time. Cheers. |

Using a proxy is the only way i can get work to download. Going direct just results in time outs & project backoffs- even using 6.10.58 And if it does start to download, i get a couple of kB at a couple of kB/s (or slower), then it times out. Grant Darwin NT |

Does anyone have the IP address for the ET's? Maybe they can issue work units quicker and keep the dolphin happy. Dolphin busy downloading........ Thanks for the fish. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

6.10.58 Is not perfect, it just has shorter backoff's than the 6.12.xx. Its pretty bad out there, too many shorties and AP's. Kevin |

Well, being as there is nothing to complain about, I'm going to complain anyway! My beef is everything has been running very smoothly over the holidays!RAC is going up, lots of work. I don't think I can take it anymore. Good job and thanks to the folks at Berkeley :) Brett |

No panic, But I cant keep my little GTS 250 fed. I have plenty of CPU work but those dang shorties are killing my GPU. And it sure dosent help when i have a GPU wu hung at 74% with a dang 7 hour backoff. Oh and did I mention the super fast downloads of 2 KPS. It could be worse, My old P4 could be crunching the work faster than I can download it:) So with tongue in cheek I wish the lab a happy new year.
Old James |

I find selecting a number of downloads that are backed off, going retry, then suspending and resuming Network activity can get you downloading from the other download server reasonably fast, at ~15kbs, if you don't get any downloads at that speed, do another Network suspend/resume after 3 minutes or so, (DNS should have switched to the other server by then) Claggy |

Im not so sure that 6.12.34 is the culprit. Yes it has that god awfull backoff. But my P4 and Intel mac have no problem getting work. Its just my I7. Im wondering if somehow the frequent request for work for the faster rigs some how get marked as ( to many reguests stop calling me ) By some quirk in the servers. Im just talking out of my hat, But are any slow rigs having problems getting work with the 6.12.34 boinc?
Old James |
