Reference cards usually running at 76° - 78°C.

For mega size WU, Richard, you are right.
I found 'polyphase' in some normal size WUs later.
So, it's not, at least not only, the reason.

Anyway, the first one of the 4 WUs, #917829102, is now validated and got credit even the reported value for flopcounter and Triplet count are different.

Sorry 5 degrees from thermal tolerance limits is a big nono. That will cook your definitely shorten your GPU's life. Just up the fan speed as I said. If need be buy a bigger box to allow for better air flow

Just had 3 of that XL-wu's.
Crunching them now on the HD6970.
First one took 1 CPU core to load it on the GPU in one minute.
Pc in that time was near to freesing.
I crunch 3 at ones while the 6 CPU crunch SETI and Primaboinca
With 3 'normal' wu's GPUZ shows 98% load
When that first XL had loaded it was 100%

When I was typing this it looks like 2 of that XL-wu's aborted early.
In a minute I report then to see what happend

So far, so good with Cataclysm 12.1.
Temperature is fine tho, I had Bitcoin farm for several months with 6 5850s, low 70s are okay. This 5770 is one slot XFX version, which I like very much, bcs it is tiny card but still quite powerfull. Does AP task for 1:40 hours, pays well credit wise.
