20?

Low

Here is my third car:

1971 Chevy Vega Hatchback. It was a nice sporty looking car and did well on fuel consumption for the time. Too bad it was so poorly made. At the time we had photo studios in Oxnard, LA, Riverside and San Bernardino. This was our commuter car so it got a lot of miles on it. My dad said it was mine, and I did drive it to school when not used for other things. It’s the car I drove to my driver training course. I had started driving tractors and trucks when I was 11. Lived on a farm. But this is the car I got my drivers license in.

High

You guys are not going too fast. I there's no way that I will be able to post my who collection. But here is car 4.

1962 Toyota Landcruiser. I worked cutting chirstmas trees with my dad and found a derilict wreck at a logging yard that they let me have for $65. I was told that it had been driven into a river and that the engine was runined. Well, cleaned it up, drained the gas, water and oil, cleaned the carb, put in fresh gas and oil, new filters, and drove it away. Worked great for about year then I burned up the engine for good. Note: If you pop the hood and the block is glowing red, you’ve got problems. Well I did a full rebuild, I mean full body off, right down to having the frame sand blasted and repainted. It becase a beast with a Chrysler hemi for power. Just happened to have one laying around from car 1.

Still high, but I see we are not going to get beyond high school.

Car 5: 1969 Mustang Mach 1

Year was 1972 and I got a used 1969 Mustang Mach 1, 351c, Medium Gold Metalllic, black interior. This car was orginally owned by a police officer. He had spilled some bullets in the trunk. Every now and then I would find a 45 logged in the back somewhere. I got this car upto about 135. Did LA to Ensenada in under 2 hours to win a $100 bet. The car did not handel very well until you got over 75. Then the spoliers, front and back took over. The car was sucked down and it flew after that. It got about 7 to 12 mpg. So it had to go when the oil embargo shot gas prices to over $1 a gallion. Can you imagin that. Gas that sold for around $0.23 a gallon and going up to over $1 overnight.

Without looking up, the guy running the scales at the dump said "You guys got a new truck?"

You are low.

3,500

Headed in the right direction.

I was running the Jackhammer breaking up concrete, and the other guy was hauling off the pieces. After a few hours of this, I realized that there might be a problem. The 1/2 ton pickup truck was full above the walls.

4500?

[edit]

for a total load of 5500 lbs on a 1/2 ton truck.

[/edit]

To as close as I remember it.

As far as I remember the conversation it went:

"You guys got a new truck?"

"No."

"The 3/4 ton then"

"No"

"You have got to be kidding right?"

"No"

"Ok, what is on the truck today"

"Concrete rubble"

Then directions were given for where to dump the load.

The closest I ever got to that was one day I was loading copper wire in to a ten ton truck; the problem was the wire was labelled in Kg, but I thought it was pounds. It took me 15 minutes to go six blocks. The truck was right down on the stops.
I am eating supper so I'll be back in a bit.
Thnx John.

In our case, it was mostly a downhill glide to the dump.
