Do we start in Shakespeare's county?

No, further north.

Centre of UK not England, and not furthest point from coast.

The bridge shown at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:HodderLancsYorks.JPG is also in the area. So, yes.

So we are near either Dunsop Bridge, or Whalley Bridge, depending on how we define the UK (mainland, or including islands)

It is not called the Very Old Bridge, or the old Hodder Bridge.

The nearby "in use" bridge is the Lower Hodder Bridge, further upstream is the Higher Hodder Bridge.

The Bridge in question has an historical background, because it was used by someone who was not a King.

Just for info this pack horse bridge was built in 1561/2 to replace an even older one that was washed away in a flood.

We Have a winner, Sten-Arne.

The bridge was named Cromwells Bridge because he used it to get 8,000 Parliamentarian infantry to the Battle of Preston in the English Civil War on 16th August 1648.
