Gripe:
Just came back from E@H, because of the total unavailablity of Seti WU`s here. Ran dry. E@H is too nice. Nothing went wrong. Loads of WU`s, no connection problems, sensible credit.
I got bored.
Kudos:
Back to Seti for the adrenalin rush, due to the lack of all the above.
Am I addicted to Seti?

;-)

Andy

Andy, you like the rest of us are just fundamentally loyal to the original Boinc project. Yes it drives as potty at times, yes we feel like giving up on occasions, yes we tear our hair out, but the simple fact remains.

This is home.

For one I am getting sick and tired of being treated like a child from seti.
It is hard enough just to get work let alone deal with these limits.
I waited all week just to get work and now with the limits I get enough work for 1 day out of a 10 day cache.

These limits will drive out the serious crunchers for sure.

Folding @home is looking very good at this point
I have a quad soon to be six cores with a 460 gpu.
I can only imagine the frustration of a 2 to 3 gpu user

Hope this gets ironed out as this is treating us like children

Oh, come on now. It's not THAT bad, my friend.

If you have been monitoring the NC and news forums, you would understand why there are limits in place right now.

I don't like 'em any more than you do, but they are in place to try to keep everything going after a Boinc code change gone awry, a main Seti router gone flaky, and trying to come back up after a lot of downtime with empty caches everywhere.

All is good now, pending the next failure point...LOL.

BTW...the kitties said they like your avatar.

I know I just get pissed off when there is no work.
I just put in a Phenom 2 1100T and wow it has given me a huge increase over the 965.

I just get pissed that's all.

The kitty is my pal Leo and he is my biggest joy. Even more than computing.

I do love this project but I do get pissed off sometimes.

The last new work I got was October 5 about 10 - 11 hours of work. Have bin trying to upload since than have not luck. NO upload not new work. Since September 21 I had all most no work because of upload not working properly, maybe Tuesday will be lucky. Working on Rosetta for now. Hope thing will get back to normal sooner than later. If you are getting new work units to great full.

(kudos)
Seti is my oldest project, I started in 2000. Workunits then took almost a day to compute and there was not a whole lot of traffic between the servers and the screensaver. It took me 3 years to complete 5000 workunits. Stopped boinc a few years ago and decided to continue at the end of August.

(gripe)
Nowadays there is oftentimes no work, but, in the few days that there is work I get more credits than I got under the classical seti. It seems like there is a lot of traffic between the servers and my computer, perhaps we simply need more and bigger workunits. Got my first astropulse though! Compared to Einstein@home I do not get a whole lot of credit.

GRIPE - Apparently I'm not paranoid. It took months to sort-of figure-out how well / poorly I did when I added an Athlon II x 2 and a 560Ti to my computer closet. I wasn't impressed. I waited until it looked like things were back to normal. I changed the RAM, the motherboard, and installed a brand new shiny Phenom II x 6 1090, reloaded the OS and got everything working; so the project died. Again.

KUDO - To whoever it is that managed to program the SETI@Home project to know when I upgrade hardware and to crash within a day or so afterward so that it takes months for me to get a feel for how much good the upgrade did. That's some pretty spiffy coding there, buckaroo.

But a serious KUDO goes to whoever it was that managed to get things in process to replace the RAM in the router so *everyone* can connect... well, you know what I mean; when and if there's anything to connect-to.

Smokey Bear never put out so many fires. Keep it up, gentlemen.

I will, catnip is part of daily diet and Pot is part of mine so we get along just fine.

I was just looking at your machine.
Wow.

How do you find the 460 stacking up to you 295.
Is the 295 still faster?

I like the fermi design. More than one thread / unit is great.

739 gflops peak on this card overclocked to 825 core. 1650 shader

I get nice results from it.

Anyway have a great day in America land.
Sun is shinning here in Victoria BC Canada.
Of course it always shines here.

Have you been paying attention to Elenin and Nubiru.

Looks like we may have an impact in November.
They have located it's position of impact to be the bering sea

We shall see when a wave a mile high hits Vancouver Island.

Have a good Thanksgiving bro and happy crunching

Well, the 295s are pretty hard to beat until you start getting up into really high end Fermi cards because you get 2 GPUs per card.
But the Fermi design has still not been fully optimized by the Lunatics group, or so they say.

Meow meow meow meow, Leo!
